Our approach to process design is consensus and customer driven!

Before designing a demand planning program, you should ask the Forecast customer about the content and characteristics of the demand plan. Since Demand planning is customer driven, a Sales Forecasting Process is an integral part of this initiative.

The demand planning process should be designed to deliver an accurate forecast – right product, right time and right location! The demand plan should have consensus from all organizational functions on the demand side.

This is only possible if Sales Forecast intelligence can be obtained without much interruption to the Sales Force.

Our guiding objective is to design a best-in-class process to deliver an accurate, one-number plan to the Supply Chain!

The Key steps in our process model are:
  1. Assess the demand forecast needs of the down-stream customer
  2. Identify Roles and Responsibilities of the organization on the demand side including Sales, Marketing, Product Development and Category Management

  4. Design the sub-process for Sales Forecasting including promotional and Event Planning and integrate it with the CRM process in the organization.
  5. Design Consensus process and define appropriate review reports.
  6. Define the rules for forecast reconciliation and Demand consensus
  7. Define exception management for demand and supply volatility. Our focus is to enable you to manage the process by exception. We have data mining capabilities to dig into your process and help you develop exception management
  8. Define the process for identifying Supply constraints and Reverse Feed-back. Demand Management is a continuous process and thrives on constant communication, feedback and action. We help you implement processes that are self-sustaining and continuously improving
  9. Define Holistic Metrics and processes for continuous improvement. We help you design end-to-end Value Chain Metrics including key measurements for the Demand Chain. It is important to measure your entire demand chain not just the demand planners

Price Elasticity of Demand, define the demand.#Define #the #demand

define the demand

Define the demand

Define the demandDefine the demand

Define the demandDefine the demand

The price elasticity of demand measures the responsiveness of quantity demanded to a change in price, with all other factors held constant.

Definition

The price elasticity of demand, Ed is defined as the magnitude of:

proportionate change in quantity demanded

proportionate change in price

Because the calculation uses proportionate changes, the result is a unitless number and does not depend on the units in which the price and quantity are expressed.

As an example calculation, take the case in which a product’s Ed is reported to be 0.5. Then, if the price were to increase by 10%, one would observe a decrease of approximately 5% in quantity demanded.

In the above example, we used the word approximately because the exact result depends on whether the initial point or the final point is used in the calculation. This matters because for a linear demand curve the price elasticity varies as one moves along the curve. For small changes in price and quantity the difference between the two results often is negligible, but for large changes the difference may be more significant. To deal with this issue, one can define the arc price elasticity of demand. The arc elasticity uses the average of the initial and final quantities and the average of the initial and final prices when calculating the proportionate change in each. Mathematically, the arc price elasticity of demand is defined as:

Q1 = Initial quantity

Q2 = Final quantity

P1 = Initial price

P2 = Final price

Elastic versus Inelastic

In this case, the quantity demanded is relatively elastic, meaning that a price change will cause an even larger change in quantity demanded. The case of Ed = infinity is referred to as perfectly elastic. In this theoretical case, the demand curve would be horizontal. For products having a high price elasticity of demand, a price increase will result in a revenue decrease since the revenue lost from the resulting decrease in quantity sold is more than the revenue gained from the price increase.

In this case, the quantity demanded is relatively inelastic, meaning that a price change will cause less of a change in quantity demanded. The case of Ed = 0 is referred to as perfectly inelastic. In this theoretical case, the demand curve would be vertical. For products whose quantity demanded is inelastic, a price increase will result in a revenue increase since the revenue lost by the relatively small decrease in quantity is less than the revenue gained from the higher price.

In this case, the product is said to have unitary elasticity; small changes in price do not affect the total revenue.

Factors Affecting the Price Elasticity of Demand

  • Availability of substitutes: the more possible substitutes, the greater the elasticity. Note that the number of substitutes depends on how broadly one defines the product.

  • Degree of necessity or luxury: luxury products tend to have greater elasticity. Some products that initially have a low degree of necessity are habit forming and can become “necessities” to some consumers.

  • Proportion of the purchaser’s budget consumed by the item: products that consume a large portion of the purchaser’s budget tend to have greater elasticity.

  • Time period considered: elasticity tends to be greater over the long run because consumers have more time to adjust their behavoir.

  • Permanent or temporary price change: a one-day sale will elicit a different response than a permanent price decrease.

  • Price points: decreasing the price from $2.00 to $1.99 may elicit a greater response than decreasing it from $1.99 to $1.98.

Free Online Thesaurus from Macmillan Dictionary, the free online thesaurus.#The #free #online #thesaurus

Macmillan’s free online thesaurus and how to use it

Read our blog post about the most recent changes rolled out for Macmillan Dictionary’s Thesaurus feature:

Let us know what you think of those changes in a comment! We’d love to hear your view.

    What is the Macmillan Thesaurus?

The Macmillan Dictionary includes a free thesaurus.

Every word, phrase, phrasal verb, and individual meaning in the Macmillan Dictionary has a corresponding entry in the Thesaurus, introduced by the symbol The free online thesaurus.

To use the thesaurus, juck click on the ‘Explore Thesaurus’ button which appears underneath every word and meaning in the dictionary.

    The free online thesaurus

    A thesaurus with a difference

The Macmillan Thesaurus was developed at the same time as the dictionary, so these two resources work together to provide exactly the help you need. This makes our Thesaurus unique in three ways:

    (1) The synonyms it provides relate to the particular meaning you are looking for, not just to the word.

For example, the word bright has plenty of synonyms but the ones you need will depend on whether you’re interested in bright meaning ‘shiny’ or bright meaning ‘intelligent’. In the Macmillan Thesaurus, each meaning of bright has its own separate list of synonyms. Just click on the thesaurus link at the end of the particular meaning you’re looking at, and you’ll see the synonyms for that meaning.

    The free online thesaurus

    (2) The Thesaurus doesn’t just give synonyms, but related words too. Most of the time, you’ll be looking for another way of expressing a particular idea, and the Thesaurus will give you a carefully-selected list of similar words and phrases. But some types of word don’t have synonyms. There aren’t really any synonyms for cottage, for example, but cottage belongs to a lexical set of words for buildings that people live in words like house, apartment, mansion, and condo. So when you’re looking at a word for a concrete object a plant, an animal, a machine, or a building, for example the thesaurus provides a list of related words.

Try looking up tennis or palm tree, for example, and you’ll see a list of all the words to do with tennis or the words for types of tree.

    (3) Finally, the Thesaurus provides definitions for the words it lists. It’s hard to choose exactly the right word if all you see is a list, so every word or phrase in our Thesaurus comes with a full definition to help you make the right choice.

    The meaning of thesaurus

The term thesaurus comes from an Ancient Greek word meaning ‘treasure trove‘ or ‘storehouse‘. Macmillan Dictionary’s free online English thesaurus is exactly that! More than just a list of synonyms, it draws distinctions between similar words and helps you choose just the word you need. Explore and enjoy!

    Handling Your Claim

Whether you’re reporting a simple fender bender or a catastrophic house fire, a dog bite or on-the-job injury, Farmers follows the same basic five-step process to see every claim through from start to finish.

    Here’s what we do:

    Claim Assignment

When we receive your claim, it will be assigned to a claims professional. Depending on the complexity of your claim, you may work with a team of claims representatives, each of whom has experience handling a particular aspect of your claim.

    Initial Contact

A claims professional will contact you to:

    • Gather facts surrounding your loss
    • Review your coverage
    • Explain how your claim will be handled
    • Schedule an in-person appointment if one is needed
    • Identify ways to protect your property from further damage

    Estimate and Evaluation

    Your claims professional will then:

    • Determine whether the loss is covered
    • Inspect and document damage
    • Interview witnesses or other involved individuals
    • Take photos and samples (if needed)
    • Evaluate your claim

    Resolution

We’ll work with you to resolve your claim fairly either by:

    • Paying what you’re owed
    • Or explaining why there would be no payment on your claim

    Close the Claim

Once we’ve resolved your claim under the terms of your policy, we close the claim. If you discover additional expenses, we will re-open your claim to investigate.

How to File a Car Insurance Claim, Tips for Filing, What You Need – More, claim the insurance.#Claim #the #insurance

Tips For Filing A Car Insurance Claim

If you drive, chances are that you will eventually be in an accident or have another incident that damages your car. You will need to follow certain steps to file a claim with your car insurance company to get reimbursement.

Claim types include bodily injury claims for medical expenses and property damage claims to vehicle repairs and stolen property. Read on to find out how to file a car insurance claim.

    When to File a Claim

Contact your car insurance company as soon as possible following a car collision. You may also need to file a claim if your vehicle is:

    • Vandalized.
    • Stolen.
    • Damaged from a non-accident-related event, such as fire or severe weather.

Your auto insurance agent’s or insurance company’s telephone number is listed on the front of your insurance card. However, you may also be able to find it online and in your actual policy documents.

    Information You’ll Need

When you contact your company to file a claim, make sure to provide the following details:

    • Your full name and policy number.
    • The start and end date of your policy.
    • Date and time of the incident.
    • Names, addresses, and phone numbers of all drivers, passengers, and witnesses.
    • Driver’s license and license plate numbers for all drivers.

Your insurance company might also require you to complete a sworn statement that details the events of the auto accident (i.e. weather conditions, time of day or night that the incident occurred, etc.). Make sure also that you note any personal harm you notice and take photos of the damage.

Five Basic Steps of Filing a Claim

Once you contact the car insurance company, your case will go through the following steps.

    1. Case assignment to a professional at your car insurance company who will work on your claim.
    2. Meeting with your claims professional to discuss your coverages and the situation.
    3. Evaluation by your claims professional, which can include inspecting your car, examining evidence of any injury claims, and an initial payment.
    4. Resolution of the case, including payments as appropriate.
    5. Closing of the case.

Since you are responsible for protecting your own property, your car insurance company may require you to make temporary fixes to your car while you are waiting for car repairs. These can help prevent further damage. However, be sure not to make permanent repairs before you are approved, because these may not be reimbursed.

Make sure to keep receipts for expenses as you fix your car and seek medical treatment.

    Hiring an Attorney

In some cases, you might consider bringing in the counsel of an attorney who specializes in accident claims. They may be able to expedite the process.

    Coverage for Bodily Injury Claims

If you are not at fault for the accident, you’ll typically be covered by the other driver’s bodily injury liability coverage. However, if you live in a no-fault state, you may pay for your injuries through your own personal injury protection (PIP) coverage.

Other optional medical coverages that will help pay for your injuries include:

    • Medical payments coverage – Helps pay for funeral costs, injuries suffered by your passengers, injuries to you if a car hits you while you are walking or biking, and necessary dental care resulting from a car accident.
    • Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage – Pays for injuries sustained in an accident with a driver who has no or too little insurance to cover your costs.

Before purchasing optional medical coverage or raising your minimum deductible, consider using your own health insurance to cover all or part of your injuries.

For more information, visit our Medical Coverages page.

    Handling a Bodily Injury Claim

When you are hurt in a car accident, there are certain steps that can make the process of dealing with a personal injury claim easier. Remember to:

    • Take photos of the scene and your injuries.
    • File a police report and request a copy.
    • Visit a doctor immediately.
    • Write down everything related to your injury, including any work time or activities you may have missed due to the injury.
      • This is necessary if you’re going to file a lost wages claim.
    • Hire an attorney, if necessary.

Finally, remember to never admit fault at the scene.

For more information on how to ensure you handle an injury-causing accident properly, visit our page on the first steps after a personal injury accident.

    Property Damage Claims

Your ability to file a claim for vehicle repairs depends on the cause of the damage and the coverages that you have.

Liability property damage coverage, which is required in many states, does not cover your own car. It will only pay for the damages you cause to another driver’s vehicle in an accident that you cause.

The two major coverage types that pay for damage to your vehicle include:

    • Collision coverage, which pays for damages to your vehicle after a collision.
    • Comprehensive coverage, which will cover damages to your car occurring from events that aren’t related to accidents.
      • Examples include vandalism and severe weather.

Other coverages that will cover property damage include:

    • Uninsured and underinsured motorist property damage coverage to get you reimbursement if you are in an accident and the driver that hit you does not have insurance.
    • Gap insurance coverage to cover the difference if you have a car loan or are leasing your car, and it is declared a total loss.
    • Windshield or glass coverage to replace or repair a windshield, mirror, or window that is damaged in an incident other than a collision.

For more information, see our Vehicle Coverages page.

    Handling a Property Damage Claim

When you file a physical damage claim, an insurance adjuster will inspect your vehicle and estimate how much it will cost to repair the damage. You will then receive a check from the insurance company that takes into account the auto deductible you have chosen for your policy.

If your vehicle has been damaged, follow these steps in order to have your car insurance claim processed effectively:

    • Report the damage to your vehicle to your insurance company immediately.
      • Depending upon your insurance company’s policies, you can do this online, by calling your insurance agent during regular business hours, or by calling the company’s claims division.
    • If another driver was involved, exchange insurance information.
    • Allow your insurance company to inspect the vehicle before repairs are made.
    • Protect the vehicle so no further damages are caused and losses are limited.
      • For example, if the accident causes the fender to rub against the vehicle tire, you should have this repair made immediately so the tire is not further damaged. If you don’t make the repair, your car insurance company can refuse to pay for any additional damages.
    • Save all receipts and any other documentation you receive to give to your insurance company as part of your claim.
    • Provide any requested information the insurance company needs as part of its investigation. If you refuse to cooperate, your claim could be denied.

Making smart decisions about how to move forward with your claim, and making sure you document all damage, will go a long way toward a fast and smooth settlement of your claim.

    DUI DWI in South Carolina

    South Carolina DUI DWI

Drinking and driving is a serious and dangerous offense in South Carolina. You can face heavy fines, jail time, driver’s license suspensions, ignition interlock device requirements, alcohol and drug safety programs, and reinstatement fees.

If you are arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) of drugs and/or alcohol, you will face criminal penalties in court and administrative penalties with the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

On this page you’ll find information about the definitions of a DUI, the common penalties, and the steps you may need to take to reinstate your driver’s license.

    South Carolina DUI Definitions

In South Carolina, it is illegal to drive a vehicle if your blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) is 0.08% or higher.

If you are younger than 21 years old, it is illegal to drive with a BAC of 0.02% or higher.

If you hold a CDL license the legal limit is 0.04% or higher.

NOTE : Depending on the circumstances of your offense, you may receive a DUI or alcohol-related violation even if your BAC is under the legal limit.

DUI or Refusing a Chemical Test Penalties in SC

The penalties for a DUI/DWI in South Carolina will vary depending on the severity of your offense and the number of times you’ve committed a DUI in the past 10 years. If you drink and drive you will face both criminal penalties in court and administrative penalties with the South Carolina DMV.

It is also important to remember that South Carolina has an “Implied Consent” law. This law basically states that if you drive in the state of South Carolina you agree to take a chemical test of asked to do so by a law enforcement official. Due to this law, refusing a chemical test can get you just as many, if not more, penalties from both civil and criminal court agencies.

    Administrative Penalties

Administrative penalties are civil penalties and are in addition to, and separate from, criminal penalties. Once you fail or refuse a chemical test you can plan on losing your license for some period of time. You will be sent a notice for your Administrative hearing within 30 days of your hearing date. For more informations on hearing contact the Department of Motor Vehicles at (803) 896-5000.

If you decide not to contest the suspension or the hearing does not go in your favor, you will face administrative penalties which include a driver’s license suspension.

    • 1st offense: 6 months.
    • 1st offense: Indefinite (with a BAC 0.15% and over).
    • 2nd offense: Indefinite.
    • 3rd offense: Indefinite.
    • 1st offense: 6 months.
    • 2nd offense: Indefinite.
    • 3rd offense: Indefinite.

For both DUI and refusing a chemical test you will be required to complete the Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services course. Additionally you’ll have to pay a minimum $100 license reinstatement fee and carry SR22 insurance for a minimum of 3 years once your suspension is completed.

Those who have a 2nd or subsequent offense for drugs and/or alcohol, or a 1st offense involving “great bodily injury or death” will be required to have an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) installed on their vehicle if they wish to drive.

    Underage Drinking and Driving

If you are younger than 21 years old, you can receive a DUI/DWI if you’re caught driving with a BAC of 0.02% or higher.

In addition to criminal court penalties, you will face the following penalties with the South Carolina DMV:

    • 1st offense: Driver’s license suspension for 3 months.
    • 2nd offense within 5 years: Driver’s license suspension for 6 months.
    • 1st offense refuse a chemical test: Driver’s license suspension for 6 months.

    Criminal Penalties

Criminal penalties for DUI or refusing a chemical test are high in South Carolina. Again, these penalties will be in addition to any administrative penalties. Criminal penalties are greatly impacted by your BAC at the time of testing. The following are the minimum criminal penalties you may face in court for a DUI with a BAC of under 0.16%*:

    • For a 1st offense, you may face:
      • A fine of $400.
      • Minimum 48 hours in jail.
      • Maximum up to 30 days of jail time. AND/OR
      • 48 hours of community service.
    • For a 2nd offense, you may face:
      • A fine of $2,100 to $5,100.
      • Minimum 5 days in jail.
      • Maximum up to 1 year in jail.
    • For a 3rd offense, you may face:
      • A fine of $3,800 to $6,300.
      • Minimum 60 days in jail.
      • Maximum up to 3 years in jail.
    • For a 4th and subsequent offense, you may face:
      • A fine determined by the court.
      • Minimum 1 year in jail.
      • Maximum up to 5 years in jail.

NOTE : If you are arrested on suspicion of a DUI/DWI in South Carolina and you refuse to submit to a BAC/breathalyzer test, you will typically receive similar penalties to those above.

*A BAC of over 0.16% will cause higher fines and jail time.

    South Carolina Ignition Interlock

An ignition interlock device, which attaches to your vehicle’s ignition system, is used to test your BAC before you start your vehicle.

You will be required to have an ignition interlock device if you are convicted of a 2nd or subsequent offense for a DUI/DWI. If you refuse to have an IID installed when you are required to have one in order to drive, your license will be suspended for 3 years.

All installation, maintenance and monitoring fees will be your responsibility to pay. You must keep your IID in good working order in order to be able to drive. Your IID will have to be inspected by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Pardon and Parole every 60 days.

For more information about ignition interlock device requirements. please visit the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website.

Reinstate Your South Carolina Driver’s License

After satisfying the South Carolina court requirements and criminal penalties for a DUI/alcohol-related offense, you’ll need to reinstate your driver’s license with the South Carolina DMV once your suspension period is over.

Your reinstatement requirements will vary depending on the nature of your DUI, but you may need to:

    • Pay the reinstatement fee which is a minimum of $100 .
    • Provide an SR-22 for proof of insurance .
    • Complete an Alcohol and Drug Safety Action Program (ADSAP).
    • Pass a knowledge test and driving skills test.

Exclusive: Inside the rarely-acknowledged missions of two Navy SEALs killed in action

Navy Seal Kyle Milliken, 38, was shot and killed in Somalia in May. He was on a raid serving as an adviser to Somali forces as he and his team approached a compound alongside local troops.

Their deaths underscore the fact that from Somalia to Yemen, as well as in Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan, the war against ISIS, al Qaeda and their affiliates has largely fallen on special operations forces to fight.

With the political reluctance in recent years to send large numbers of conventional forces to the front lines, small teams of special operations forces have become increasingly the force of choice for commanders in battling terrorist networks.

And these highly trained troops are increasingly paying with their lives. Five have been killed in action so far this year, and a total of 22 have died since June 2014 when the war against ISIS began.

CNN has obtained the battlefield citations for both Owens and Milliken — both of whom served for years on high-risk classified combat missions — revealing new details of their extraordinary service.

    Owens’ secret battle in Somalia

For his actions in one battle, Owens was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, the nation’s third highest medal for valor. His citation contains astonishing details of the never-disclosed battle against 400 al Qaeda militants deep inside war-torn Somalia in 2015.

This secret battle raged for three days in July 2015, with Owens leading a 12-man team alongside African forces, targeting 400 enemy militants. He was ambushed and attacked with “small arms, machine guns, anti-aircraft guns, rocket propelled grenades, mortars, and improvised explosive devices,” according to his citation.

Owens “repeatedly exposed himself to enemy fire” the citation says, eventually securing a town that had been in enemy hands for 10 years. On earlier tours, he helped rescue buddies who were pinned down and wounded, and guided in Medevac choppers while under fire.

Virginia Rep. Scott Taylor, a former Navy SEAL sniper, knew both men. Of Owens, he said: “From everything I knew about him, he was a great guy — highly committed, highly talented.”

    Milliken’s final mission

On Milliken’s final mission last month, he was an adviser to Somali forces, and was in the line of fire under considerable risk, according to the battlefield citation. He was shot and killed as his unit approached a compound west of Mogadishu. Taylor, like many who have served on front lines, rejects the controversial Pentagon view that when troops are military advisers they must stay out of the direct line of fire.

“‘There are no boots on the ground, they are just advisers,’ well we know that’s BS. Of course they are all boots on the ground,” Taylor said. “I think you need to get back to using conventional forces.”

Taylor added: “You certainly can’t fault the operator for wanting to get into the fight. They are there, they are there on the ground with the force they are helping.”

    ‘Concealed’ position

Since Obama began sending special operations forces into war zones with local forces on counterterrorism missions, the basic military policy has been that US troops should try to stay behind a ‘covered” or “concealed’ position in order to not draw fire to themselves. It’s a policy that most troops say simply doesn’t work on the battlefield but that the Pentagon under President Trump still appears to be bound to.

But Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently made clear that no changes to that policy are expected.

“The fundamental rule that applies to all of our forces that are conducting partnered ops that — that they would be at the last cover and conceal position, and not actually the ones closing with the enemy, because fundamentally we conduct partnered operations,” he said at a news conference on May 22. “It is the partners who are actually closing with and destroying the enemy.”

However, at a Capitol Hill hearing on Tuesday, Dunford did concede that special operations forces are stretched, stating that he had been asked by Secretary of Defense, James Mattis to examine all special operations missions to determine where conventional forces can be substituted.

    The future of special operations

Taylor recalled his own first mission in Iraq, which was alongside Milliken.

“Everyone loved Kyle, everyone loved him,” he said.

Milliken also served for years in combat as part of a heavily relied-upon special operations force. In 2007 alone, he conducted 48 combat missions in Iraq. During one mission, he helped evacuate three wounded SEALs under fire. In 2009, his team was spotted as they approached a compound they were raiding. Milliken went in, killing enemy forces from less than 20 feet away.

The citations released to CNN remain heavily blacked out, shielding classified details. But there is one clue on how secret their work was. In 2015, Milliken was awarded the Navy achievement medal for developing “ground-breaking procedures” for “future national mission taskings.”

In the world of special operations, “national missions” are the most classified, requiring presidential approval and often remaining secret for decades.

CNN’s Zachary Cohen contributed to this report.

    The Electron Shell

You may be familiar with the role of electrons in electrical devices, but did you know that electrons also determine the chemical reactivity of everything around you?

We learned already that electrons are negatively charged subatomic particles. We also talked about how the electrons are found in clouds around the nucleus. You’ve probably seen a lot of symbols for atoms, probably something like this where the electrons are represented as having specific orbits. What actually is the case is that the electron cloud is a prediction of the area in which the electrons can be found.

Illustration of an electron cloud with two electrons

So, if we have our nucleus in the middle and we think about this circle as being a 3-dimensional sphere around the nucleus, we can say that any given time, if I was to take a snapshot of this atom, that the electron would be found somewhere in this sphere or this cloud around the nucleus. But I couldn’t be sure exactly where it is. If I were to take different photos at different times, then the electron would be in an unpredictable, nonrandom place somewhere in that cloud.

The electron cloud is just giving us a prediction of the area in which the electrons can be found. There’s also energy associated with the electron clouds. The electron clouds are also known as electron shells, and they’re also known as energy levels.

Let’s just make a representation in 2-D of an atom. If we have our nucleus here, I can draw one energy level like this, and I can put an electron here. Now, think about subatomic particles in terms of their charge. The electron has a negative charge, and the protons in the nucleus have a positive charge. Negative and positive things attract each other.

If I had two powerful magnets here, and one end has a positive charge, and one end has a negative charge, they’re going to want to move together. Now, the fact that the electron is orbiting out here outside of the nucleus, that it’s found out here away from the positive charge, means that it’s moved away, farther away than that charge would probably prefer to be.

If I was to take this negative magnet and move it across the table and if these are powerful magnets, then I’m going to have to exert some force to keep this negative magnet away from the positive one. Otherwise, it’s going to move rapidly toward that positive magnet. What I’ve created here is something called potential energy. By moving this magnet away, I’ve created this scenario where this magnet wants to move; it wants to release this potential energy as kinetic energy, or it wants to move towards the positive magnet.

Now, when I have this nucleus think about it in terms of energy levels. we think about it in terms of energy levels because it took energy to have this electron out here at this orbital. So, there’s some sort of energy associated with this energy level, and if I have multiple energy levels, I’m going to have even more energy associated with this second energy level. As I move out with each energy level away from the nucleus, the electrons that occupy these energy levels have more and more energy because they’ve been pulled farther and farther away from this nucleus.

    Understanding energy levels

If I was to talk about energy levels in terms of the first energy level or the second energy level or the third energy level, there’s more energy associated with energy levels as they increase in number. So, energy is increasing as we increase the number of the energy levels.

We can also talk about energy levels in terms of the number of electrons that can occupy those levels. I’ll draw my first energy level, and it’s referred to as 1s, so one for the energy level, and the letter that is associated with the number is basically defining the shape of the electron cloud. It’s not going to be important for our purposes to actually know what all the shapes are, but just be aware that this is what that is describing.

So, each orbital has a different kind of shape. An s orbital has a specific kind of shape, and in a moment we’ll talk about a p orbital, which has yet another kind of shape. Each orbital surrounding the nucleus can be occupied by two electrons. Let’s draw our nucleus again, and I’ll have orbital one. I can have an electron here, and I can have an electron here. So, this would be a full orbital. If I then go out to the second energy level, the second energy level is defined by 2s and then three kinds of 2p’s for a total of eight electrons.

Locations of electrons in the electron shell

Just remember that this is a representation of an atom, that this is a way for us to count electrons when we want to talk about atoms and how they interact with other atoms.

It’s important to be able to define the electrons because the electrons are going to be able to define the reactivity of atoms with other atoms. We talk about the electrons in the outermost shell. In this case, let’s say I have one electron shell and have one electron in this orbital. This electron level is called the valence electron level, and the electrons in this orbital are the ones that are going to interact with other atoms.

    Definition of a valence electron

Now, atoms want to have full electron shells. We’ve talked about 1s as being able to hold two electrons, so this atom with only one electron in this valence level is unstable, and it wants to have a full valence level. Take another example – if there are two electron levels here, and I have one electron out here, this valence level has one electron. If I added another electron, that’s not going to help me, because at the second energy level, I’ll want to have eight electrons. So, I would’ve had to add seven other electrons to fill this valence level. So, I could also just remove this electron and end up with two electrons in the 1s level – that then would be more stable, because this second electron level has been emptied.

If we take a look again at the periodic table, we can see now how the organization of the periodic table is going to help us predict the reactivity of various kinds of atoms. Generally speaking, in biology, we’re going to talk about the first, second and 13th-18th columns. What you can see here is that these first, second and these other columns, three, four, five, six, seven, and eight, are sometimes referred to as groups 1-8, signifying atoms that have 1-8 valence electrons.

    Group number periodic table illustration

All of the atoms are aspiring to be like atoms in the eighth column, because all of these atoms have eight electrons and are most stable. These atoms are referred to as Noble gases .

    Summary

We’ve learned a lot about electrons in this lesson. We’ve learned that the electron shell defines the space around the nucleus where the electrons are most likely to be found. We’ve also learned that this can be referred to as an energy level. and we’ve also learned that the electrons in the outermost energy levels are referred to as valence electrons. Finally, we’ve learned a little bit about the organization of the atoms in the elements in the periodic table, and how the atoms without a complete valence shell aspire to be more like the Noble gases. which have a full valence level.

    Online Master’s Degree Programs

Students often want to pursue advanced training in a field, but can find that life circumstances sometimes make it hard to act. Master’s degrees online may help with those hurdles and give students extra options in pursuing their education.

    Seeking an Online Master’s Degree

According to the Council of Graduate School’s study, “Graduate Enrollment and Degrees: 2000 to 2010,” since 1999, graduate enrollments in the United States have increased nationally by an average of 3.7% annually. Today, an increasing number of these graduate programs, including master’s degree programs, are being offered online. Read More

Companies such as Zipcar and Airbnb prove that sharing is better than owning. Take a look at the infographic to learn how much sharing can.

Many companies and employees consider e-mail the lifeblood to work productivity. Our infographic takes aim at the issue and tries to help sort out some.

Studying for a Master s degree online

The question remains: Why pursue an advanced education through an online program?

Diverse choices. Not quite sure about your career path? Degree opportunities span the gamut of professional interests and disciplines, including areas such as the following:

Opportunity for better career earnings. According to 2011 research from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, individuals holding a master’s degree had higher median weekly earnings in 2011 than those possessing a bachelor’s degree.

    • Master’s degree. Median wages for those with a master’s degree were $1,263
    • Bachelor’s degree. Median wages for those with a master’s degree were $1,053

Indeed, while completing a master’s degree is no promise of increased earnings, doing so could lead to enhanced career focus and open new networking opportunities. It is important to remember that requirements and degree completion time varies by program — be sure to review program specifics before deciding on a school and area of study.

    Why earn a master’s degree?

Attending graduate school is a calculated risk – a risk you should consider carefully before dusting off the backpack, pulling out the laptop and heading back to class. Prior to making a decision, be sure to weigh the pros and cons for completing a master’s degree and ask if the potential benefits of the degree outweigh the costs and time involved.

Before you enroll, you may want to consider these five things

    1. Not all degrees are created equal. First, you may want to consider the eventual earning power your future degree holds. Does an MBA hold more earning potential than a master’s in art history? Examine salary and educational trends in your prospective degree field before taking the plunge – does the value of the degree make it worth the cost?
    2. Consider the cost. Graduate school may be expensive. Period. Costs may vary by the school and program, the availability of financial aid and the length of the master’s program. However, be sure to factor in the opportunity cost, that is, the possible loss of employment income while you attend school.
    3. Private life vs. school balance. Do you have family and work responsibilities? Can you balance newly added pressures of graduate school and sustain your family and/or work life?
    4. Handling tuition. The breaking point for many future students is tuition. How will you pay for tuition? Are you prepared to assume debt by taking on student loans? Can you work while you attend school?
    5. Relocation is a possibility. After reviewing master’s degree programs, will you have to relocate? Is your ‘dream’ program located 2,000 miles across the country? Be sure to consider the school’s location before making a decision.

Four reasons to pursue a master’s degree

As you confront the various decision points about going back to school, there are four major reasons to make that decision – career choices, employment and earnings.

    1. Allows you to change direction. Ready for a change in careers or a new position within your current field? Studying for a master’s degree may allow you to change course on your career path, either pivoting into a new career field entirely or developing new managerial and deep skill sets that may allow you to move up in your current employment arena.
    2. Reveals skills and competency. Do those little letters after your name – MBA, MA, MS – really make a difference on your resume? They sure do. A master’s degree listed on your resume may not be just an ornament; it may also reflect newly defined skills and competency within your field of study.
    3. Increases earnings opportunities. The third, and probably most important, reason to pursue a master’s degree is the possibility of increasing career earnings. According to 2011 research from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, individuals possessing a master’s degree had higher weekly median earnings than those with only a bachelor’s degree. Median wages for individuals with master’s degrees were $1,263, while individuals with bachelor’s degrees were $1,053.
    4. Online programs may be an option. An increasing number of post baccalaureate degrees may be now available either entirely as online programs or with online course components. Online options may be diverse, master’s degrees may be found in everything from education to engineering, fine arts to business, nursing to social work. Choosing an online program may offer some flexibility and may allow you to keep from relocating to complete your degree.

Taking the time to weigh the pros of cons of a possible master’s degree program is important. Not only should you match the degree to your future career goals, but you should also consider the individual degree requirements and the amount of time necessary to complete the program, as they both vary by school and department.

As you make a decision, be sure to set realistic goals, do your homework and make a plan before settling on a master’s degree program.

Pursuing a master degree: Requirements for admission

There are four major graduate admissions tests that may be used for applicants applying to liberal arts and non-professional programs, law school, medical school and business school. Here is an overview of each of these exams.

GRE (Graduate Records Examinations). The GRE is the most widely accepted graduate admissions test required for admissions to graduate school and is usually taken by students applying to liberal arts and non-professional graduate programs. There are three components to the test: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and an analytical writing section. The analytical writing section consists of two parts: issue task and argument task. Scores range from 130 to 170.

GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test). If you’re applying to business school, you may be required to take the GMAT as part of your application process. There are four parts to the GMAT: quantitative, verbal, integrated reasoning and analytical writing. You may be given three and a half hours to take the test, and the total score may be from 200 to 800 points.

LSAT (Law School Admission Test). The LSAT is widely used by law schools in the admissions process. The exam includes sections on reading comprehension, analytical reasoning, logical reasoning and writing. While the writing portion of the exam is not scored, it is sent to the law schools to which the test taker has applied. Total LSAT scores customarily range from 120 to 180.

MCAT (Medical College Admission Test). This test is administered to medical school applicants. The four sections of the MCAT are physical sciences, verbal reasoning, biological sciences and writing. The writing portion is being phased out of this exam in 2013, with an unscored trial section taking its place. Raw scores may be converted to a scale of one to 15.

Preparatory materials may be available for all graduate exams and may include practice tests and study courses. Exam and master degree requirements may vary by degree program and institution, so you should check with your school of choice for its individual exam requirements.

    Tara Reid

What Happens When You Don t Use A Certified Plastic Surgeon?

Ever wonder why there is so much debate about Tara Reid plastic surgery? It is because of her unbelievable boobs that are sometimes dubbed as the ugliest breasts in Hollywood.

    The worst plastic surgery

Tara Reid was born in New Jersey on November 8, 1975 and soon became extremely popular in her high school acting team. By age 9,

Tara was regularly featured in the game show, Child’s Play. Her stints at TV shows also allowed her to perform in more than 100 commercials.

Somehow, Tara found it interesting to be a part of controversy when she started to appear in cult films such as The Big Lebowski, Urban Legends, and Cruel Intentions. What made her truly famous was a lead role in the films American Pie and American Pie 2. Otherwise, subsequent roles in unsuccessful movies just enhanced her image.

Tara Reid The Plastic Surgery Dilemma

The incident that made Tara Reid the subject of countless debates was Diddy’s 35th birthday party. A strange dressing apparently revealed the scarred breasts of the Hollywood darling.

Fans were horrified to view a glimpse of the botched plastic surgery.

She s not the only of course who wasn t initially pleased with the results of their surgery.

Kenny Rogers and Bruce Jenner are two well known stars who have also publicly talked about their problems after going under the knife. Meg Ryan s surgery is also worth reading about.

Tara Reid Talks To NBC About Cosmetic Surgery

During an interview with NBC, Tara recalled the horror at the show by admitting that her surgeon had made her breasts look squarish.

Tara explained that she intended to hide her breasts because they seemed like a goose-shaped egg. She further claimed that the only reason that she had a plastic surgery was due to the uneven size of her breasts.

    Plastic Surgery Gone Wrong?

Further investigation revealed that Tara didn’t use a certified plastic surgeon but her selection was merely based on the word-of-mouth from her Hollywood friends.

Apparently, the breast implant was not the only thing that Tara had to hide.

It is well-known that Tara doesn’t mind a tummy tuck because she is operated for liposuction.

Cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Steve Svehlak verifies that he saw Tara’s tummy first-hand after her liposuction.

According to Dr. Svehlak, her tummy looked like a cobblestone road with lots of bumps and without any smoothness an awful example of plastic surgery gone wrong!

Tara Reid: Before After The Latest Plastic Surgery

Fortunately for Tara and her cult followers, she opted to use a board certified surgeon for her second breast surgery.

It seems that her decision to use a specialist has paid off as Tara is confident enough to pose for the a well known adult magazine.

Critics scoff at Tara’s new look suggesting that it looks odd to have such huge breasts on an otherwise slim body. On the other hand, Tara’s fans seem to ratify her new looks, which to them are far better than the previous version.

Still, rather like Megan Fox (see Megan Fox before and after plastic surgery), cameramen love to be around the celebrity.

A recent picture revealed that both breasts seem to sag over her chest.

A critic elaborated that Tara’s breast seem to have been stuffed inside her bra like someone with a wobbly breast getting an implant to fill a body part.

Followers of Tara rue that the actress chose her destiny when she started to accept roles in almost any movie without regard to her reputation.

They also advise that Tara doesn’t need another celebrity plastic surgery because she is already past her prime.

    Tara Reid Before After Photos

Clearly, you have to admire Tara Reid for publicly discussing what she went through and delighted now she has found board-certified cosmetic surgeon Dr Steve Svehlak.

But what s your view? Check out the picture gallery below and let us know what you think about Tara Reid plastic surgery.

    Comments

I wish Tara well. She is a beautiful woman. No one deserves to be at the hands of a bad doctor.

Liposuction should be outlawed. They stick hoses into your body without measuring how much body fat you have, and then they just guess as to how much to suction out. I went in for a breast reduction (which I needed) and the surgeon suctioned out tissues on my athletic body from my waist to my distal knees. I am now disabled, disfigured my life ended that day. My buttocks , infragluteal crease, posterior legs, distal knees, lateral legs over my strong muscle all were suctioned out with my need or consent or any good medical judgement. I wasn t going in for weight loss, and the board certified doctor who did this is Encino, knew that I was contra-indicated for what the did. Let me tell you something, dying is not the worst thing that can happen to a person. Living through this sort of thing is, and by this, I don t mean a botched job, I mean a full on surgical assault like had unsuspectingly been done to me, I don t have an ass anymore. It is concave, I can t work, I cant hang with anyone. I suffer immensely all day long. I can t sit walk, move, or stand, or sleep. I feel like we should go after the makers of the liposuction equipment to task for not making doctors have a way to measure body fat in a concrete way before they suction out fat tissue that you don t have to spare. It s insane, who would think that is okay? We should bond to together and go after MicroAire for putting these of horrible tools of destruction into hands of doctors who are just nerds who made it through medical school. They don t teach ethics or common sense or teach someone how to truly care and listen to others We can t let this cycle of abuse to continue, are we? More people need to sleep up.I need help myself, and I want to help others not lose their life as I have through some state board moron who suctioned out my buttock with consent. He sucks me dry. Now who would do something that deranged? Who do I call to get help with this? I need a lawyer. I need the story to get on the news, I need support, The sugeron needs to take a permanent sabatical Theses guys just can t keep being allowed to operstate on and butcher people! Liposuction should be outlawed. What are we going to do?

she is one stunning woman i think her breasts are to big for her body type

    80s TV Shows

    80s Sitcoms

The Sitcom ruled the airwaves in the 80s. Of all the 80s TV shows that were popular, no genre consistently topped the ratings like the sitcom did. In the early 80s, tv shows like Threes Company . One Day at a Time . Taxi . and Different Strokes were extremely popular. In the mid 80s, Growing Pains . Newhart . The Golden Girls . Cheers . Who’s the Boss? . and Family Ties led the way. Later in the 80s, Roseanne . Alf . and Nightcourt brought laughs into the living rooms of a large amount of American households.

    The Cosby Show

Of all the sitcoms, the champion had to be the The Cosby Show . From its first airing in 1984, the Cosby Show was always at the top of the 80s television charts. Not only was it the most popular sitcom of the 80s, but it almost single handedly revived the fortunes of its network, NBC, which previously had languished at the bottom of the ratings. The Cosby show featured the Huxtable family, with Bill Cosby playing the role of Dr. Cliff Huxtable. A lot of the show’s subject matter was based on Cosby’s stand up comedy routine. This opened the door for the likes of Roseanne, Jerry Seinfeld, Drew Carey, and Ray Romano to have similar success with shows based on their comedy.

    80s TV Dramas

    80s Prime Time Soaps

In the early to mid 80s, the television soap opera made a big push into prime time. The 80s TV Show Dallas was the prime instigator in the soap take over of prime time. Dallas actually premiered in 1978, but it’s Who Shot J.R. episode in 1980 was the show that really ushered in the heyday of the prime time soap. The show was one of the most look forward to tv shows in television history. It was the resolution of the previous season’s cliff hanger involving the shooting of the favorite villain of the show: J.R. Ewing. Throughout the summer of 1980, Who Shot J.R. dominated american pop culture. There were t-shirts proclaiming I shot J.R. being sold, there were magazine specials discussing all of the potential suspects, it was a pop culture phenomenon. The actual show ended up being the highest rated television show in US history, but was later eclipsed by the final episode of M*A*S*H.

Following up on the success of Dallas, the 3 networks dished off a bunch of soaps for their prime time viewing audience. There was a Dallas spin off called Knots Landing . which followed the exploits of Gary Ewing in California. Other families America loved to follow were the Carrington’s of Dynasty and the Channings of Falcon Crest . Other soap style shows included Hotel and LA Law .

The Love Boat / Fantasy Island

The Love Boat and Fantasy Island were ABC’s one two punch on Saturday nights for a good portion of the early 80s. Until Fantasy Island’s final season in 1984, the two shows led the ratings for Saturday night viewers. Aaron Spelling’s The Love Boat was an hour long show that involved different couples each week finding love on a cruise ship. The couples were played by well known guest stars and included everyone from Alan Thicke to Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Fantasy Island was another show that involved having guest stars appear each week. This time they were people who paid to have their fantasies produced for them on a mysterious pacific island. Ricardo Montalbán played their host, Mr Roarke, who would get his employees ready to welcome the guests to the island with the famous line smiles everyone, smiles . And of course there was his assistant Tattoo, played by Hervé Villechaize, who would let everyone know the plane is coming in by ringing the bell in the bell tower while yelling Ze Plane! Ze Plane! .

    80s Detective/Police Shows

There were many great detective/police shows in the 80s. If you were into the more traditional police/court dramas you would have Hill Street Blues . In the Heat of the Night . Matlock . Miami Vice . or Cagney Lacey to watch. There was also the espionage centered Scarecrow and Mrs. King if you were into spy shows. If you enjoyed the private detective genre, you could choose from Murder She Wrote. Riptide. Simon Simon. Hart to Hart . or Moonlighting .

    Magnum, P.I.

The top detective show of the 80s had to be Magnum, P.I. . which starred Tom Selleck as the part time private investigator. While Magnum’s main job was as a security consultant for famed writer Robin Masters, he spent most of his time doing P.I. work. The fringe benefits of working for Masters, included living in the guest house of Master’s lavish Hawaiian estate and access to his red Ferrari 308GTS. Magnum P.I. ran from 1980-1988 and consistently ranked high in the nielsen ratings.

The addresses you are linked to

    • Linked Addresses are the addresses you have lived at or used as a postal address within the UK. Your credit report contains linked address records for up to 8 years.
    • If a bank or financial institution searches your credit report, they will see all of your address history and all the credit details attached to it including the addresses you haven t given us.
    • It is very important that you give us a full 6 years of address history to ensure you re seeing all of your Experian Credit Report information, and an accurate Experian Credit Score.
    • The addresses you are linked to do not affect your credit score, or your ability to get credit.
    • Your credit score, and ability to get credit, is not affected by other people who have lived at your linked addresses (unless you are financially associated to them).

    What are Linked Addresses?

If you are linked to an address, this is because you have either lived there or live there now, but they may also be addresses you have been linked to in another way for example, an address you used as a forwarding address for your post.

Your list of linked addresses could include:

    • Variations of the same address (e.g. different spellings of house or road names),
    • Addresses you have lived at within the last 8 years
    • Addresses you haven t actually lived at (e.g. if you ve forwarded post there with the Royal Mail redirect service).

The addresses you are linked to will not include addresses from outside the UK. This is because no credit report information is recorded in your Experian Credit Report from outside the UK.

If you live in Ireland, or have done so in the past 6 years, please let us know so we can help you apply for a credit report from Experian in Ireland.

Do the addresses I am linked to affect my Experian Credit Score?

No, the addresses you are linked to do not directly affect your credit score. This is because your credit score and report are made up of information about your credit history and your ability to manage credit and it s nothing to do with where you live. Any credit information relating to your linked addresses can be taken into account by a bank or financial institution when you apply for credit.

You must ensure that you have given us a full 6 years of address history.

You can add to your address history in the My Details section of your membership area. We will only be showing you the information in your Credit Report that relates to the addresses you have given us.

If you apply for credit, a bank or financial institution will be able to see all your address history including any addresses you haven t given us. These addresses may have credit history attached to them that affects your credit score. If you haven t given us that address history, you might not be seeing your full credit report or an accurate Experian Credit Score.

There is a linked address on my credit report that is incorrect, or that I don trecognise

If there is an address on your credit report that you are not familiar with or have never been to, it can be a sign of identity fraud. Here s what you should do:

    1. We will look into this for you to help you to understand why the address is there, and to see if it can be removed from your Experian Credit Report. P lease call our UK based team on 0800 0 13 88 88 (Freephone) or 0344 481 0800*
    2. We ll contact the bank or financial institution that s recorded this information combining your name with this address, and we ll ask them to check it.
    3. We ll keep you updated we will let you know when we have contacted the bank or financial institution, and the outcome of that. Only the bank or financial institution who added the linked address information can authorize for the address link to be removed.
    4. We will add a Notice of Dispute to this linked address within your credit report. This will remain until we are able to delete, change or resolve why the address is there.
    5. Once the bank or financial institution replies to us we ll email you to let you know the outcome. We expect to receive a response from them within 28 days.
    6. You ll be able to see any changes on your credit report.

    Other things you can do:

    • Contact the bank or financial institution yourself straight away to ask them to investigate. Only the organisation can give authorisation for the link to be removed, so your contact with them can speed up the time it takes to get something corrected.
    • The bank or financial institution should inform the other credit reference agencies in the UK of this change too, but it is worth you checking directly with them. They are Equifax and Call Credit.

Can other people who have lived at my Linked Addresses affect my credit score or ability to get credit?

No, other people who have lived at your linked addresses will not affect your credit score, or your ability to get credit. When banks and financial institutions are looking at your credit applications and credit report, they will only see your information and information on your financial associations. They cannot see information for everyone who has lived at an address.

As a new car shopper, you know you need to do careful research on the models that interest you. A good place to start is the Kelley Blue Book’s 2017 Best Buys, which the automotive research firm released Tuesday.

Ivanka Trump criticized for marketing stunt, and other MoneyWatch headlines

President-elect Trump’s daughter accused of mixing biz and politics; Ford still moving small-car production to Mexico; and the dollar flexes it m.

Analysts and test drivers at Kelley and its website kbb.com have vetted over 300 2017 model cars, SUVs, pickups and minivans. Along with driving evaluations, they also looked at a wide range of data, including prices and the five-year cost to own the vehicles. That five-year figure, especially important for your automotive budgeting, includes not only average transaction prices but also financing, fuel economy, depreciation, insurance and maintenance.

“Vehicles in all segments are becoming better-equipped with more safety and tech features every year, so the competition is stiff,” said Jack Nerad, executive editorial director and market analyst for Kelley.

For the second year in a row, the Honda Civic was named as the Overall Best Buy as well as the best small car. Read on for a closer look at the winners in each category.

    Small car: Honda Civic

The Kelley Blue Book editors said they honored the Civic as the Overall Best Buy for the second year “because of the Civic’s unsurpassed all-around value.”

“It turns in very high marks in objective measures like resale value and cost to own, yet it is a supremely satisfying car to drive and live with every day,” they added.

With a wide range of versions including a sedan, coupe and hatchback (pictured above), the Civic list price ranges from $18,740 to$26,600. The base sedan’s gas mileage is rated at 32 MPG in city driving, 42 on the highway.

    Midsize car: Honda Accord

In this category of family cars, Kelley editors praised the Accord for its dependability, resale value and overall low ownership cost. Other reviewers liked the Civic for its comfortable ride, roomy seats and stylish interior. They also cite the car as having among the best fuel economy in the class, with EPA ratings for 27 MPG in city driving, 36 on the highway. List price ranges from $22,355 to $34,830.

    Luxury car: Audi A4

Totally redesigned this year, the A4 wins Kelley Blue Book’s praise for “an elevated mix of tastefully modern exterior and interior styling.” The A4 also has relatively low ownership costs compared with its luxury competition. Other reviewers note that the A4 has plenty of advanced technology, including Apple Car Play and Android Auto to synch with whichever phone you have.

A4 mileage is rated for 25 MPG city, 33 highway. List prices range from $37,300 up to $45,900 for the top version.

    Sports car: Porsche 718 Boxster

Long one of the most exhilarating cars to drive, the Boxster has been completely redesigned for 2017. Kelley editors praise the new version for better everyday usability, including improved fuel economy rated at 25 mpg in city driving, 33 on the highway. Other reviewers compliment the new Boxster for providing good leg and hip room even for tall drivers.

The Boxster 718 starts at $56,000 with standard manual transmission. Opting for a seven-speed automatic increases the list price to $59,200.

    Electric/hybrid car: Toyota Prius Prime

The Prius is practically synonymous with the gas/electric hybrid class. Now the Prius Prime plug-in hybrid has been introduced with more distinctive, less stodgy styling than the original.

Kelley notes that the Prime has an EPA rating of 133 MPGe — the gas mileage equivalent number used for electric and plug-in models — the highest for any electric car on the market. The Prius Prime lists between $24,685 and $30,015.

    Small SUV: Kia Sportage

The Sportage is completely revamped for 2017, and Kelley analysts praise the new exterior design for the bold-looking front end and sleek rear. Other reviewers like the roomy interior, especially the spacious rear seats.

Like all Kia models, the Sportage has a power-train warranty that runs for 10 years or 100,000 miles. The Sportage’s fuel economy is rated at 22 MPG city, 30 highway. List price runs from $22,990 to $34,900.

    Midsize SUV: Honda Pilot

Kelley editors call the Pilot, redesigned last year, “the roomiest, most practical SUV in the segment.” Other reviewers like its comfortable ride and roomy interior for families with three rows of seats. The MPG ratings for the Pilot’s standard six-cylinder engine are 20 MPG city, 27 highway. The 2017 model, having just gone on sale this month, has a list price running from $30,595 to $47,070.

    Fullsize SUV: Chevrolet Tahoe

The best-selling vehicle in this class, the Chevy Tahoe is described by Kelley as having “an unmatched combination of style, comfort, economy and value.” Other reviewers note that the Tahoe can easily tow a boat or large trailer and is comfortable for long trips.

At this size, however, the price of big SUVs is high and the fuel economy relatively low. The standard eight-cylinder engine is rated for 16 city, 23 highway. List price ranges from $47,215 to $65,030.

    Luxury SUV: Mercedes-Benz GLC

Kelley editors praise the GLC, redesigned last year, as an example of the current strong lineup for Mercedes-Benz. Other reviewers note that for its class, the GLC is well-priced, with a MSRP ranging from $39,150 to $41,150.

In addition to elegant interior and exterior styling, the GLC comes with tech features that befit a luxury model. You can lock, unlock or start the car from your phone. And an optional wifi hot spot lets you stay connected even on the highway. The car’s four-cylinder engine is rated at 21 MPG city, 28 highway.

    Pickup truck: Ford-150

The perennially best-selling F-150 is named a Kelley Best Buy for the third year in a row. It has taken the award ever since Ford redesigned the truck with an aluminum body for lighter weight and better gas mileage. Other reviewers like the standard turbocharged V-6 engine, which is rated for 18 MPG city, 24 highway.

Like all pickups, the F-150 comes with an array of choices of cabs, engines and transmissions. The list price starts at $26,450 and can climb all the way to near $70,000.

    Minivan: Chrysler Pacifica

Chrysler has a hit with its new Pacifica. Not only is it a major improvement on the Town Country model it replaces, but Kelley said the Pacifica “blends luxury and practicality like no minivan before it.”

The vehicle is also a pleasure to drive, Kelley editors said, citing the elegant dash design and comfortable, spacious rear compartment. The Pacifica’s standard six-cylinder engine is rated for 18 MPG city, 28 highway. List price runs from $28,595 to $42,495.

    Quality Control Quality Assurance

    Introduction

Quality is an important factor when it comes to any product or service. With the high market competition, quality has become the market differentiator for almost all products and services.

Therefore, all manufacturers and service providers out there constantly look for enhancing their product or the service quality.

In order to maintain or enhance the quality of the offerings, manufacturers use two techniques, quality control and quality assurance. These two practices make sure that the end product or the service meets the quality requirements and standards defined for the product or the service.

There are many methods followed by organizations to achieve and maintain required level of quality. Some organizations believe in the concepts of Total Quality Management (TQM) and some others believe in internal and external standards.

The standards usually define the processes and procedures for organizational activities and assist to maintain the quality in every aspect of organizational functioning.

When it comes to standards for quality, there are many. ISO (International Standards Organization) is one of the prominent bodies for defining quality standards for different industries.

Therefore, many organizations try to adhere to the quality requirements of ISO. In addition to that, there are many other standards that are specific to various industries.

As an example, SEI-CMMi is one such standard followed in the field of software development.

Since standards have become a symbol for products and service quality, the customers are now keen on buying their product or the service from a certified manufacturer or a service provider.

Therefore, complying with standards such as ISO has become a necessity when it comes to attracting the customers.

    Quality Control

Many people get confused between quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA). Let’s take a look at quality control function in high-level.

As we have already discussed, organizations can define their own internal quality standards, processes and procedures; the organization will develop these over time and then relevant stakeholders will be required to adhere by them.

The process of making sure that the stakeholders are adhered to the defined standards and procedures is called quality control. In quality control, a verification process takes place.

Certain activities and products are verified against a defined set of rules or standards.

Every organization that practices QC needs to have a Quality Manual. The quality manual outlines the quality focus and the objectives in the organization.

The quality manual gives the quality guidance to different departments and functions. Therefore, everyone in the organization needs to be aware of his or her responsibilities mentioned in the quality manual.

    Quality Assurance

Quality Assurance is a broad practice used for assuring the quality of products or services. There are many differences between quality control and quality assurance.

In quality assurance, a constant effort is made to enhance the quality practices in the organization.

Therefore, continuous improvements are expected in quality functions in the company. For this, there is a dedicated quality assurance team commissioned.

Sometimes, in larger organizations, a ‘Process’ team is also allocated for enhancing the processes and procedures in addition to the quality assurance team.

Quality assurance team of the organization has many responsibilities. First and foremost responsibility is to define a process for achieving and improving quality.

Some organizations come up with their own process and others adopt a standard processes such as ISO or CMMi. Processes such as CMMi allow the organizations to define their own internal processes and adhere by them.

Quality assurance function of an organization uses a number of tools for enhancing the quality practices. These tools vary from simple techniques to sophisticated software systems.

The quality assurance professionals also should go through formal industrial trainings and get them certified. This is especially applicable for quality assurance functions in software development houses.

Since quality is a relative term, there is plenty of opportunity to enhance the quality of products and services.

The quality assurance teams of organizations constantly work to enhance the existing quality of products and services by optimizing the existing production processes and introducing new processes.

    Conclusion

When it comes to our focus, we understand that quality control is a product-oriented process. When it comes to quality assurance, it is a process-oriented practice.

When quality control makes sure the end product meets the quality requirements, quality assurance makes sure that the process of manufacturing the product does adhere to standards.

Therefore, quality assurance can be identified as a proactive process, while quality control can be noted as a reactive process.

    Texas Internet Sales Tax #where #is #the #internet #located

    #

    Texas Internet Sales Tax

If you are selling goods or products online and some of your customers are located in Texas, you need to be aware of the state s Internet sales tax rules. Keep in mind that collection of sales tax on Internet sales has been a matter of ongoing debate both within individual states and at the federal level.

The General Rule: Physical Presence in the State

The current default rule throughout the United States is that you must collect sales tax on Internet sales to customers in those states where your business has a physical presence. The physical presence rule is based on a 1992 United States Supreme Court decision. Quill Corp. v. North Dakota. that addressed the obligations of mail order businesses to collect sales tax on out-of-state sales. The decision has been extended to include online retailers. Generally speaking, a physical presence means having:

    • a warehouse in the state
    • a store in the state
    • an office in the state, or
    • a sales representative in the state.

The corollary to the physical presence rule is that, if you do not have a physical presence in the state, you generally are not required to collect sales tax for an Internet-based sale to someone in that state.

    Examples of Physical Presence

Example 1. You are an online retailer located in Bangor, Maine and make a sale through your website to a customer in El Paso, Texas a state where your business has no physical presence: You are not required to collect sales tax from the El Paso customer.

Example 2. You are an online retailer located in Austin, Texas and make a sale through your website to a customer in San Antonio, Texas: You are required to collect sales tax from the San Antonio customer.

Example 3. After several years of operating solely out of a warehouse in Bangor, Maine, you open a one-room satellite office just outside of Houston, Texas a state where previously you had no physical presence. A day later, you make a sale through your website to a customer in Dallas, Texas: You are required to collect sales tax from the Dallas customer.

Physical Presence and Nexus in Texas

While the physical presence rule may seem clear, this is not necessarily the case. In Quill. the Supreme Court discusses not only physical presence, but also several types of potential nexus (connections) between a business and a state. Many states, including Texas, have used the term nexus rather than physical presence in their sales tax laws, regulations, or other official documents, and have sometimes defined nexus in ways that could go beyond physical presence.

For basic guidance on how physical presence is defined under Texas law, consult Section 151.107 of the Texas Tax Code (Tax Law), which provides a variety of definitions for RETAILER ENGAGED IN BUSINESS IN THIS STATE. The first of the statutory definitions refers to maintaining a place of business in the state directly, or indirectly or through a subsidiary or agent. The fifth definition acts as something of a catch-all, by stating that a retailer who solicits orders by mail or other media can be required to collect and pay sales tax if permitted by federal law.

For additional guidance, check Rule 3.286 under Title 34 of the Texas Administrative Code, which provides definitions of when a seller is engaged in business in Texas. The Rule includes a statement that a person does not have nexus with the state simply because he or she has a certificate of authority to do business in the state. The Rule also states that an out-of-state seller with nexus with the state must collect sales tax.

One other source, a 2006 online publication from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (TCPA) on Internet sales, states that businesses with physical representation in Texas must collect sales tax but an out-of-state seller is not required to collect Texas tax if the seller only conducts business in Texas from out-of-state by mail, telephone, or via the Internet.

    Non-Taxable Items

Under Texas law, certain items are exempt from sales tax, and certain purchasers may not be required to pay sales tax. For example, most food and food ingredients are exempt from sales tax. You can find information on various exemptions in Rules 3.286 through 3.344 of the subchapter on sales and use tax in the Texas Administrative Code. Also, the TCPA continues to make available online a guide to exemptions, dated September 2007, that focuses on exempt organizations. You may also want to check the TCPA s Sales and Use Tax FAQ page .

Texas also has an annual sales tax holiday from the first Friday in August through to the following Sunday. The holiday covers certain clothing, footwear, backpacks, and school supplies costing less than $100 per item. The TCPA publishes awebpage and a FAQ page on the holiday. In addition, more detailed information is available in Rule 3.365 of the Texas Administrative Code.

    The Customer s Responsibility

In cases where the online retailer does not have to collect sales tax, it is the customer s responsibility to pay the tax in which case it is known not as a sales tax but, rather, a use tax. The TCPA states on its use tax FAQ page that one of the most common reasons for a purchaser being subject to use tax is purchasing a taxable item from an out-of-state retailer without paying Texas tax and using the property in Texas. The FAQ page goes on to state that if a purchaser purchases merchandise “through a catalog or the Internet from a seller located outside of Texas and use[s] the taxable item in Texas,” then the purchaser owes use tax on the purchase. You can find more formal guidance about the use tax in Rule 3.346 if the Texas Administrative Code.

    Proposed Federal Legislation

At the federal level Congress has repeatedly considered legislation that would affect large Internet retailers and how online sales taxes are collected in all states. The most recent form of a proposed federal law is the Marketplace Fairness Act of 2015. As in previous versions, the 2015 Act would allow states to require sellers not physically located in their state to collect taxes on online and catalog sales made to people in their state. Sellers that make $1 million or less in annual sales and have no physical presence in the state would be exempt from this requirement. States would have to meet certain criteria to simplify their sales tax laws and make sales tax collection easier before they could require sellers to collect the tax.

    Final Words

It is the long established physical presence rule that will apply with regard to Internet sales to customers in Texas. Online sellers with possible in-state agent or related party status should check the rules more carefully. This is a contentious and evolving area of law so be sure to check in periodically with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts to see if the rules have changed.

    The Heart (Human Anatomy): Diagram, Definition, Location in the Body, and Heart Problems #heart, #anatomy, #human #anatomy, #heart #picture, #heart #image, #picture #of #the #heart, #heart #conditions, #heart #problems

    #

    Picture of the Heart

The heart is a muscular organ about the size of a fist, located just behind and slightly left of the breastbone. The heart pumps blood through the network of arteries and veins called the cardiovascular system.

    The heart has four chambers:

    • The right atrium receives blood from the veins and pumps it to the right ventricle.
    • The right ventricle receives blood from the right atrium and pumps it to the lungs, where it is loaded with oxygen.
    • The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the left ventricle.
    • The left ventricle (the strongest chamber) pumps oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body. The left ventricle’s vigorous contractions create our blood pressure.

The coronary arteries run along the surface of the heart and provide oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle. A web of nerve tissue also runs through the heart, conducting the complex signals that govern contraction and relaxation. Surrounding the heart is a sac called the pericardium.

    Heart Conditions

    • Coronary artery disease. Over the years, cholesterol plaques can narrow the arteries supplying blood to the heart. The narrowed arteries are at higher risk for complete blockage from a sudden blood clot (this blockage is called a heart attack).
    • Stable angina pectoris. Narrowed coronary arteries cause predictable chest pain or discomfort with exertion. The blockages prevent the heart from receiving the extra oxygen needed for strenuous activity. Symptoms typically get better with rest.
    • Unstable angina pectoris. Chest pain or discomfort that is new, worsening, or occurs at rest. This is an emergency situation as it can precede a heart attack, serious abnormal heart rhythm, or cardiac arrest.
    • Myocardial infarction (heart attack ): A coronary artery is suddenly blocked. Starved of oxygen, part of the heart muscle dies.
    • Arrhythmia (dysrhythmia): An abnormal heart rhythm due to changes in the conduction of electrical impulses through the heart. Some arrhythmias are benign, but others are life-threatening.
    • Congestive heart failure. The heart is either too weak or too stiff to effectively pump blood through the body. Shortness of breath and leg swelling are common symptoms.
    • Cardiomyopathy. A disease of heart muscle in which the heart is abnormally enlarged, thickened, and/or stiffened. As a result, the heart’s ability to pump blood is weakened.
    • Myocarditis: Inflammation of the heart muscle, most often due to a viral infection.
    • Pericarditis. Inflammation of the lining of the heart (pericardium). Viral infections, kidney failure, and autoimmune conditions are common causes.
    • Pericardial effusion. Fluid between the lining of the heart (pericardium) and the heart itself. Often, this is due to pericarditis.
    • Atrial fibrillation. Abnormal electrical impulses in the atria cause an irregular heartbeat. Atrial fibrillation is one of the most common arrhythmias.
    • Pulmonary embolism. Typically a blood clot travels through the heart to the lungs.
    • Heart valve disease. There are four heart valves, and each can develop problems. If severe, valve disease can cause congestive heart failure.
    • Heart murmur. An abnormal sound heard when listening to the heart with a stethoscope. Some heart murmurs are benign; others suggest heart disease.
    • Endocarditis. Inflammation of the inner lining or heart valves of the heart. Usually, endocarditis is due to a serious infection of the heart valves.
    • Mitral valve prolapse. The mitral valve is forced backward slightly after blood has passed through the valve.
    • Sudden cardiac death. Death caused by a sudden loss of heart function (cardiac arrest).
    • Cardiac arrest. Sudden loss of heart function.

    Continued

    Heart Tests

    • Electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG): A tracing of the heart’s electrical activity. Electrocardiograms can help diagnose many heart conditions.
    • Echocardiogram. An ultrasound of the heart. An echocardiogram provides direct viewing of any problems with the heart muscle’s pumping ability and heart valves.
    • Cardiac stress test. By using a treadmill or medicines, the heart is stimulated to pump to near-maximum capacity. This may identify people with coronary artery disease.
    • Cardiac catheterization. A catheter is inserted into the femoral artery in the groin and threaded into the coronary arteries. A doctor can then view X-ray images of the coronary arteries or any blockages and perform stenting or other procedures.
    • Holter monitor. If a doctor suspects an arrhythmia, a portable heart monitor can be worn. Called a Holter monitor, it records the heart’s rhythm continuously for a 24 hour period.
    • Event monitor. If a doctor suspects an infrequent arrhythmia, a portable heart monitor called an event monitor can be worn. When you develop symptoms, you can push a button to record the heart’s electrical rhythm.

    Continued

    Heart Treatments

    • Exercise. Regular exercise is important for heart health and most heart conditions. Talk to your doctor before starting an exercise program if you have heart problems.
    • Angioplasty. During cardiac catheterization, a doctor inflates a balloon inside a narrowed or blocked coronary artery to widen the artery. A stent is often then placed to keep the artery open.
    • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI): Angioplasty is sometimes called a PCI or PTCA (percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty) by doctors.
    • Coronary artery stenting. During cardiac catheterization, a doctor expands a wire metal stent inside a narrowed or blocked coronary artery to open up the area. This lets blood flow better and can abort a heart attack or relieve angina (chest pain).
    • Thrombolysis. “Clot-busting” drugs injected into the veins can dissolve a blood clot causing a heart attack. Thrombolysis is generally only done if stenting is not possible.
    • Lipid-lowering agents. Statins and other cholesterol (lipid) lowering drugs reduce the risk for heart attack in high-risk people.
    • Diuretics. Commonly called water pills, diuretics increase urination and fluid loss. This reduces blood volume, improving symptoms of heart failure.
    • Beta-blockers. These medicines reduce strain on the heart and lower heart rate. Beta-blockers are prescribed for many heart conditions, including heart failure and arrhythmias.
    • Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors ): These blood pressure medicines also help the heart after some heart attacks or in congestive heart failure.
    • Aspirin. This powerful medicine helps prevent blood clots (the cause of heart attacks). Most people who have had heart attacks should take aspirin.
    • Clopidogrel (Plavix ): A clot-preventing medicine that prevents platelets from sticking together to form clots. Clopidogrel is especially important for many people who have had stents placed.
    • Antiarrhythmic medications. Numerous medicines help control the heart’s rate and electrical rhythm. These help prevent or control arrhythmias.
    • AED (automated external defibrillator): If someone has sudden cardiac arrest, an AED can be used to assess the heart rhythm and send an electrical shock to the heart if necessary.
    • ICD (Implantable cardioverter defibrillator): If a doctor suspects you are at risk for a life-threatening arrhythmia, an implantable cardioverter defibrillator may be surgically implanted to monitor your heart rhythm and send an electrical shock to the heart if necessary.
    • Pacemaker. To maintain a stable heart rate, a pacemaker can be implanted. A pacemaker sends electrical signals to the heart when necessary to help it beat properly.

    Presidents – favorite places for White House romps #inside #the #white #house

    #

Whilst everyone speaks of the Inauguration politically, myself now speaks of whatever. or whoever presidents may have inaugurated personally.

Historians know zip about Abe’s performance in the Lincoln Bedroom. However, about other hot times in the old town at night, I know.

Warren Harding, our 29th chief of state, did it repeatedly inside the White House. His presidential place of choice for young lady Nan Britton? A closet. Clearly, the Prez and the squeeze were both slim or that closet was large. Secret Serviceniks once had to stop Mrs. Harding from beating on the door — or her husband.

About James Buchanan, serving 1857-1861, we know little. That reason being it was before CNN. We do know Buchanan, the only bachelor president, was inseparable from Alabama Senator William King. The pair begat two nicknames: “Miss Nancy and Aunt Fancy” and “Mr. Buchanan and his wife.”

The autobio of wartime driver Kay Summersby, Ike’s ladyfriend, confirms her affair with Eisenhower, although whether they played in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. or just in a European dugout is not clear.

Lyndon Johnson made up for any draught. LBJ was a busy boy. Oy, was he busy. So busy, hard to understand where he found time to govern bodies other than his own. Assorted ladies were called “the harem” and this sex Tex installed an Oval Office buzzer. The thing activated when his missus was in the vicinity.

Grover Cleveland found time to manufacture an illegitimate child, although one wonders how any chickadee could summon sufficient passion to utter the words: “Go, Grover, go.”

    JFK s many ladies

JFK had the busiest sex life. Besides nonfamous ladyfriends like his longtime go-to Judith Exner, he also slipped out of a quiet Carlyle Hotel entrance to supposedly read the Constitution to Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Audrey Hepburn, Angie Dickinson, Marlene Dietrich, stripper Blaze Starr. And all of those were only on a Friday.

    Jefferson, too

We know about Sally Hemings, Thomas Jefferson’s slave and also half sister of his dead wife. Also his mistress for 38 years. Why scientists would perform testing 200 years later, who knows, but DNA implies that, besides making whoopee, they made children together.

John Tyler fathered more than the slogan “Tippecanoe and Tyler Too.” Wife One did eight kids. Wife Two, seven. Pearl, his youngest child, was born when Tyler was 70. He married Wife Two while in office, but Wife One’s eight children did not approve, did not attend the wedding, did not send a gift. Not even a junky glass vase.

Rosalynn’s husband Jimmy Carter? We know only that he lusted in his heart.

    Busy Ben

Benjamin Harrison loved to talk. He made 140 speeches in 30 days. He also did more than talk. His last daughter, Elizabeth, was younger than his grandkids.

Chester Arthur. Lest you not know much about him, jester Chester was a man about town. Loved carousing the late hours, frequenting nightclubs, entertaining creatures often. Rarely going to sleep before 2 a.m. he told one cranky temperance group: “I may be president of the United States, but my private life is nobody’s damn business.”

Hey, e pluribus unum, or one for all and all for one.

The 10 Most Exclusive Credit Cards in the World

The average citizens only use credit cards for purchases and savings, but the world s elite have access to some exclusive credit cards that give them additional perks such as access to premium concert tickets, airline reward programs and many other benefits.

These prestigious credit cars are usually made from a very expensive material and you will probably need an invitation to get access to one of them, depending on your bank account. Let us take a look at the most exclusive credit cards throughout the globe right now.

    10. Barclays Visa Black Card

The Black Card from Barclays is made of stainless steel and it looks absolutely beautiful. But it s extremely exclusive since you have to prove you have a huge income putting you in the 1% richest persons in your country, just to get one. To keep the Black Card you have to pay $500 each year, but with this car you ll have access to the VIP Airport Lounges, a $250,000 travel insurance, premium hotel access, concierge service and other rewards.

    9. Citibank Ultima Card

Exclusive to Russia, Germany, the Middle East and some parts of Asia, the Ultima Card can be received only by invitation and when it comes to travel, it has you covered since you get 120,000 points when you get it. You get rounds of golf whenever you want them for free, access to the airport lounges, exclusive hotel deals and when it comes to travel, you can have your own Bentley, private jet or yacht at your disposal in less than 10 hours!

    8. Merrill Accolades American Express Card

Of course, you have to be a client of the Merrill Lynch Wealth Management division to get one of these cars and even then you only get one if you’re invited. The fee for the card is only $295 and given that you have to earn at least $200,000 a year to get one, you won’t even feel it. The bull of the Merrill Lynch logo is on the card in golden colors and by just waving this card you have hotel discounts, complimentary amenities at resorts, full time concierge service, access to airport lounges and airline discounts.

    7. Coutts World Silk Card

If they need to earn at least $200,000 per year for a Merrill Accolades Card, this one is five times more demanding since you just have to keep $1 million in the bank account just to get it. It is the card used by Queen Elizabeth II and thus it s fit for royalty, carrying an annual percentage rate of 49.1% and giving you airport lounge privileges, travel insurance, concierge service and purchase protection. Of course you still have to wait for an invitation even if you have the million waiting in a Coutts account.

    6. Stratus Rewards Visa Card

This one chose white as its color instead of the more typical gold or black tones and it is available by invitation via a current card member or the Stratus Rewards partner company. This exclusive VISA card was designed for wealthy consumers who usually travel by private jets. The annual fee is of $1,500 and the members can pool their earned points of jet travel and redeem flight hours on the private jets of the MarquisJet Company. The discounts, complimentary car service, upgrades, amenities at luxury hotels and concierge service are available as well and you can redeem points for consultation with lifestyle experts, but you don’t really need them since Luxatic is the only lifestyle expert you could wish for.

    5. Black Brazilian MasterCard

If you had to be in the 1% richest people of the country to get a Black Card in America, the Brazilian version is even more demanding since you have to be one of the 3,000 richest persons in the country, which is way less than 1% in a country with 200 million. The members of the Santander Group private bank receive it through invitation and it is not clear what is the amount needed in the bank account to qualify. As the perks offered to you there s the usual worldwide airport lounge access, concierge service and discounts on private jets, all for an annual fee of just $350.

    4. JP Morgan Chase Palladium Card

This wonderful card from JP Morgan Chase will surely stand out since it is made of palladium and gold with laser etchings. It was created almost ten years after American Express Centurion Card and the worth of the card itself is $1,000 due to the precious metals on it. With an annual fee of $695, it is rumored that you must have $25 million invested with JP Morgan Chase to receive one. Aside from the private jet discount, hotel upgrades, events access and concierge service it also rewards you with 35,000 points if you spend over $100,000 in a year and there is no spending limit.

    3. Visa Infinite Card

It was entitled infinite but it just lets you get $15,000 each day from any ATM in the world. You can get half a million with your card if you go to a bank branch and you only need to make $100,000 a year to get one of these cards, meaning that you will have to work quite a bit to pay the credit. The point of the card is to allow you easy access to money throughout the globe and it can be issued in countries like Jordan, Russia, South Africa, Canada, France or Luxembourg with different requirements in each of the countries to receive an invitation. You have to pay a different sum as well depending on the country, but each of them allows concierge service, premium hotel accommodations, access to exclusive events and travel recommendations.

    2. Dubai First Royale MasterCard

Exclusive to the United Arab Emirates, this impressive card has no annual fee and there is no spending limit either. When it was first created, it was only given to the 200 richest customers of the Dubai First Bank and it s extremely difficult to get one to this day due to the amazing perks it offers. “You ask for the moon and we try to get it”, says Ibrahim al Ansari, the CEO of Dubai First, which gives you access to lifestyle managers that basically make sure you get everything you need. There is no credit limit and no restrictions with this card so the look has to follow suit and thus it has a .235-carat diamond in the center with a black tone around it and two gold edges.

    1. American Express Centurion Card

The Centurion card from American Express has been the most desired credit card in the world, ever since it was first issued, back in 1999. Made from titanium, this sleek black card is a lot heavier than any other credit card. You can t really apply for the Centurion Card, you just need to spend at least $250,000 every year to get an invite to the exclusive club from American Express. The card itself costs and additional $5,000 and of course, there is the annual fee of $2,500. Once you have the titanium card you receive concierge service, complimentary hotel rooms, personal shoppers, flight upgrades, airport lounge privileges and no spending limit.

    Christopher Columbus

    Introduction

The explorer Christopher Columbus made four trips across the Atlantic Ocean from Spain: in 1492, 1493, 1498 and 1502. He was determined to find a direct water route west from Europe to Asia, but he never did. Instead, he accidentally stumbled upon the Americas. Though he did not really discover the New World millions of people already lived there his journeys marked the beginning of centuries of trans-Atlantic conquest and colonization.

Christopher Columbus: The Age of Discovery

During the 15th and 16th centuries, leaders of several European nations sponsored expeditions abroad in the hope that explorers would find great wealth and vast undiscovered lands. The Portuguese were the earliest participants in this “Age of Discovery.” Starting in about 1420, small Portuguese ships known as caravels zipped along the African coast, carrying spices, gold, slaves and other goods from Asia and Africa to Europe.

    Did You Know?

Christopher Columbus was not the first person to propose that a person could reach Asia by sailing west from Europe. In fact, scholars argue that the idea is almost as old as the idea that the Earth is round. (That is, it dates back to early Rome.)

Other European nations, particularly Spain, were eager to share in the seemingly limitless riches of the “Far East.” By the end of the 15th century, Spain’s “Reconquista”–the expulsion of Jews and Muslims out of the kingdom after centuries of war–was complete, and the nation turned its attention to exploration and conquest in other areas of the world.

    Christopher Columbus: Early Life

Christopher Columbus, the son of a wool merchant, was born in Genoa in about 1451. When he was still a teenager, he got a job on a merchant ship. He remained at sea until 1470, when French privateers attacked his ship as it sailed north along the Portuguese coast. The boat sank, but the young Columbus floated to shore on a scrap of wood and made his way to Lisbon, where he studied mathematics, astronomy, cartography and navigation. He also began to hatch the plan that would change the world forever.

    Christopher Columbus: The First Voyage

At the end of the 15th century, it was nearly impossible to reach Asia from Europe by land. The route was long and arduous, and encounters with hostile armies were difficult to avoid. Portuguese explorers solved this problem by taking to the sea: They sailed south along the West African coast and around the Cape of Good Hope.

But Columbus had a different idea: Why not sail west across the Atlantic instead of around the massive African continent? The young navigator’s logic was sound, but his math was faulty. He argued (incorrectly) that the circumference of the Earth was much smaller than his contemporaries believed it was; accordingly, he believed that the journey by boat from Europe to Asia should be not only possible but comparatively easy. He presented his plan to officials in Portugal and England, but it was not until 1491 that he found a sympathetic audience: the Spanish monarchs Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile.

Columbus wanted fame and fortune. Ferdinand and Isabella wanted the same, along with the opportunity to export Catholicism to lands across the globe. (Columbus, a devout Catholic, was equally enthusiastic about this possibility.) Columbus’ contract with the Spanish rulers promised that he could keep 10 percent of whatever riches he found, along with a noble title and the governorship of any lands he should encounter.

On August 3, 1492, Columbus and his crew set sail from Spain in three ships: the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. On October 12, the ships made landfall–not in Asia, as Columbus assumed, but on one of the Bahamian islands. For months, Columbus sailed from island to island in what we now know as the Caribbean, looking for the “pearls, precious stones, gold, silver, spices, and other objects and merchandise whatsoever” that he had promised to his Spanish patrons, but he did not find much. In March 1493, leaving 40 men behind in a makeshift settlement on Hispaniola (present-day Haiti and the Dominican Republic), he returned to Spain.

    Christopher Columbus: Later Voyages

About six months later, in September 1493, Columbus returned to the Americas. He found the Hispaniola settlement destroyed (to this day, no one knows what happened there) and left his brothers Bartolomeo and Diego behind to rebuild, along with part of his ships’ crew and hundreds of enslaved natives. Then he headed west, with his own complement of native slaves, to continue his mostly fruitless search for gold and other goods. In lieu of the material riches he had promised the Spanish monarchs, he sent some 500 slaves to Queen Isabella. The queen was horrified–she believed that any people Columbus “discovered” were Spanish subjects who could not be enslaved–and she promptly and sternly returned the explorer’s gift.

In May 1498, Columbus sailed west across the Atlantic for the third time. He visited Trinidad and the South American mainland before returning to the ill-fated Hispaniola settlement, where the colonists had staged a bloody revolt against the Columbus brothers’ mismanagement and brutality. Conditions were so bad that Spanish authorities had to send a new governor to take over. Christopher Columbus was arrested and returned to Spain in chains.

In 1502, cleared of the most serious charges but stripped of his noble titles, the aging Columbus persuaded the Spanish king to pay for one last trip across the Atlantic. This time, Columbus made it all the way to Panama–just miles from the Pacific Ocean–where he had to abandon two of his four ships in the face of an attack from hostile natives. Empty-handed, the elderly explorer returned to Spain, where he died in 1506.

    Christopher Columbus: Legacy

Christopher Columbus did not “discover” the Americas, nor was he even the first European to visit the “New World.” (Viking explorers had sailed to Greenland and Newfoundland in the 11th century.) However, his journey kicked off centuries of exploration and exploitation on the American continents. The consequences of his explorations were severe for the native populations of the areas he and the conquistadores conquered. Disease and environmental changes resulted in the destruction of the majority of the native population over time, while Europeans continued to extract natural resources from these territories. Today, Columbus has a mixed legacy—he is remembered as a daring and path-breaking explorer who transformed the New World, yet his actions also unleashed changes that would eventually devastate the native populations he and his fellow explorers encountered.

For centuries, men have tried all sorts of natural remedies for erectile dysfunction (ED ) — the repeated inability to get or maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. But do they really work? It is simply not scientifically known at this point. Furthermore, you take these remedies at your own risk, because their safety profiles have not been established. What follows are commentaries by experts and reviews in the field of alternative treatments that are available over the counter for erectile dysfunction and impotence .

    Causes of erectile dysfunction (impotence)

“Just because there is evidence doesn’t mean it’s good evidence,” says Andrew McCullough, MD, associate professor of clinical urology at New York University Langone Medical Center in New York City, and one of the original clinical investigators for the ED drug Viagra (sildenafil ). “And before men with ED start down the naturopathic route, it’s smart to make sure that there isn’t some underlying medical condition that needs to be corrected.” Moreover, it is estimated that 30 million American men have erectile dysfunction. and 70% of cases are a result of a potentially deadly condition like atherosclerosis, kidney disease. vascular disease. neurological disease, or diabetes. Additionally, ED can also be caused by certain medications, surgical injury, and psychological problems.

Study Abroad for a Culinary Education Experience

There is truly no better way to learn about international cuisines than studying overseas. The love of food is shared worldwide, and each country has a unique culture and history that has been passed down for centuries. Let an Italian teach you how to prepare ravioli from scratch, or practice your sushi rolling skills with the Japanese.

    Food for Thought

Studying overseas is also a great way to learn different languages, see new sights, and explore the culinary world but at a high cost. Some countries may be more expensive than others, and tuition costs could be tripled. Other countries may have various visa and admission requirements which could take months to complete. You also have to factor in the cost of flights and travel insurance. Depending on which country you choose, programs may only be taught in a different language, so it is important to do the proper research before packing your bags.

    Studying Online

In the dawn of the 21st century, students can now study at an international school without leaving their country. Students are able to interact with teachers via webcams, and some offer video lectures and tutorials which are available online .

    International Culinary Hotspots

    Australia

If you’re looking for a culinary education Down Under, there are a variety of different online and on-campus programs available. But hold on to your Dundee hat if you think the process will be easy. Future Australia culinary students must apply for a visa several months in advance, and will more than likely be interviewed. Some culinary schools require students to complete an introductory test before getting accepted into a program.

There’s more to this country’s culinary history than moose meat and beaver tails. The Canadian food culture is a multicultural mix of countries from all over the world, just like its citizens. International students choose to study in Canada because it is cheap and flexible with admission requirements. Canada offers a large number of both online and campus-based programs, and students are required to have a GED or high-school diploma. It is important to note that the educational system in Canada is unique because all the schools are licensed by local education boards.

It is an internationally-known fact that the French are the pioneers of fine dining. Hungry tourists and future chefs from all over the world flock to France because of its culinary reputation. There are a variety of culinary programs and schools available, but the best are typically located in its capital city, Paris. Classes are taught in French, so if you are not familiar with the language you will have to enrol in a French language course.

It makes sense that food nerds wanting to study abroad pick Italy as their country of choice. Besides being the masters of various pasta creations, Italians were also the creators of pizza and gelato ice cream. It is important to know the unique Italian regions and customs, as culinary schools tend to have a specific regional focus, (such as Tuscan or Venetian cuisine).

    Japan

Whether you’re obsessed with Japanese anime, or you simply want to show off your sushi rolling skills, Japan is becoming a more and more popular country of choice for culinary students wanting to study overseas. Studying and living in Japan can be extremely expensive compared to other countries, so if you don’t want to invest in a culinary school, you could also enrol in an online program. In order to study in Japan, students must also apply for a visa, which can take months to complete.

Don’t let a language barrier get in the way of your food studies. More culinary students from around the world choose London because its schools offer programs with specific topics. Due to the fact that London is such a popular, booming city, tuition costs are more expensive. However, because of London’s admirable reputation, culinary school graduates could earn a successful career on a national or international level.

Studying in Spain could be a great way to spice up your culinary knowledge while training for your career. Because Spain is influenced by a variety of different cultures, Spanish culinary schools also educate students in Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine. Similar to American cooking classes, programs are taught in English; however some schools may offer Spanish classes. Although the majority of Spain’s culinary schools are in the Barcelona area, there are also a variety of online programs available.

The 8 Best Contract-Free or Prepaid Cell Phones to Buy in 2017

Looking for a contract-free or prepaid cell phone? You may have to pay slightly more for the handset itself, but you will get more freedom in your calling plan. You won t have to commit to a lengthy contract and you can pay for only the calling time that you need.

You may find that there are not as many choices when it comes to prepaid cell phones, but the selection is improving every day. And it actually may be quite easy to find a handset that meets your needs, as the carriers are offering a range of prepaid phones. Better yet, you also have a choice of prepaid plans, as most of the major carriers are offering a prepaid option. AT T, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless all offer prepaid options and carriers like Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile offer a variety of contract-free choices.

Here are several prepaid and/or contract-free phones that might meet your needs.

    Best Overall: Samsung Galaxy J3

Who has the best no contract cell phone service

Powered by Verizon s 4G XLTE network, the Samsung Galaxy J3 is an excellent example of what a prepaid phone should be. The 5-inch 720p HD super AMOLED display does a great job of producing a bright and full picture of Samsung s proprietary menu, as well as pictures captured from the five-megapixel camera. Beyond the great display, the J3 excels at battery life (it lasts for up to 22 hours of talk time). The design won t win any awards, but this phone isn t designed for flash or style. It does, however, excel as a lightweight and thin device that weighs just 4.9 ounces and is .31-inches slim, making it more than comfortable to hold in the hand.

The 8GB of storage is par for the course on such budget-friendly models, but it’s likely you could run out of storage with app downloads or capturing pictures. Fortunately, the J3 offers a microSD card slot (up to 200GB) underneath the battery cover for additional memory. Additionally, the J3 offers a unique feature appropriately labeled as Easy mode, which offers fewer and larger icons along with easier app interactions. Ultimately, Easy mode allows a user to get to the features they need without diving through menus upon menus of features they don t want.

One of the key traits turns out to be that Masters contenders are excellent players before they win. The average Official World Golf Ranking of the last 10 winners before they won at Augusta is 23.9, with the lowest-ranked player to win in the last 10 years being Zach Johnson, who ranked 56th in 2007 before his victory. The last five Masters winners had an average world ranking of 10.6 the week before they won. So while Augusta National Golf Club invites elite amateurs and the winners of qualifying events held around the world, the contenders are well-known, highly-ranked players. Nichols and 15th Club estimate elite players have a .3 strokes per round advantage beyond what they have in a typical event.

Rookies are not elite players, usually.
There has not been a player who won a Masters in his first appearance since Fuzzy Zoeller won in 1979, although Jordan Spieth was close in 2014. Inexperience playing at Augusta National certainly has a lot to do with that, but Nichols also pointed out that many first-timers who earn an invitation to the Masters are not elite players yet. For example, Brian Stuard is playing this week because he won the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, but he is ranked No. 145 in the world, and Billy Hurley is in the field because he won last summer s Quicken Loans National, but he is ranked No. 137.

Jordan Spieth nearly defeated Bubba Watson to win as a Masters rookie in 2014. (Jack Gruber-USA TODAY Sports)

In contrast, Spieth was already ranked 13th when he almost won three years ago, so he fell within the average of the previous 10 years. It s worth noting that Jon Rahm is making his Masters debut this week, but he is already ranked No. 12 in the world, won at Torrey Pines in January and just lost to Dustin Johnson in the final of the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship. Rohm may be a Masters rookie, but he is not a typical rookie because he has established himself as an elite player.

    The home tour advantage.
Golfers who play primarily in the United States have also been found to get a similar .2 to .4 strokes per round edge at the Masters, according to 15th Club data.

This is not a Masters-specific thing. What I find, when we compare guys who go from the U.S. to Europe, or vice versa, is that they lose about an equal amount of strokes per round, Nichols said. It s not something that has to do with the style of the courses, but I think that s mostly because of travel.

Dustin Johnson leads the PGA Tour in Driving Distance with an average of 316.2 yards. (Michael Madrid-USA TODAY Sports)

    You were right, length helps.
Fans and pundits have assumed for years that golfers who are long off the tee fair better at Augusta than players who lack power. There is no rough at Augusta National, just a spin-reducing second cut, so the course rewards distance and does not punish missing the fairway like traditional venues used during U.S. Opens and PGA Championships. The stats validate this assumption and show big hitters fair about .3 shots per round better at the Masters than their standard score.

Golfers who have length off the tee also tend to be statistically dominant in strokes gained from long range in the fairway (250-300 yards), and they can attack par 5s more effectively than other players. Zach Johnson may have won the 2007 Masters while laying up on the par 5s, but it s important to remember that was an outlier event; the 2007 Masters was contested in unusually cold weather, and scores were high (Johnson won with a final score of 1 over). Nichols said golfers who are highly-ranked in strokes gained from 250-300 yards out (not a publically available PGA Tour stat) gain .15 strokes per round.

    Only marksmen need apply.
Golfers who excel at the Masters also tend to attack flagsticks.

You want guys who, with their iron play, don t just rely on getting the ball onto the green 30 feet from the hole, Nichols said. You want to look for guys who play more aggressive shots to get themselves close to the hole.

He gives these types of players a .15 strokes per round edge over the field.

This is an area where Spieth stands out. He s almost always been a guy whose greens in regulation numbers are not elite (although he ranks No. 1 on the PGA Tour in that category this season), but he hits it closer than a lot of other guys.

Justin Rose ranks 14th in average distance to the hole after a first putt (2 feet). (Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports)

    And then there is putting.
The greens at Augusta are legendary for their speed and undulation, as well as their velvety smoothness. While many players struggle to putt well at the Masters, Nichols and his colleagues found that winners and contenders tend to be especially good lag putters from 25-40 feet (.15 strokes per round advantage). While they might hole only a handful of putts from that range over four rounds, their good lag putting leaves easier tap-in pars and helps them avoid three-putting.

So, the stats say you should pick
When you add it all up, recent Masters history and analytics say that your ideal Masters picks should be big-hitting, highly-ranked players who compete primarily in the United States. You want players who can hit long-iron shots close and who are good lag putters. Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, Sergio Garcia and J.B. Holmes are, therefore, smart selections. Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth are also worth strong consideration, but you might want to shy aware from Jim Furyk, Ryan Moore, Russell Knox and Billy Hurley.

New NS – I savings bond to pay more interest than anything else – but is Philip Hammond’s Budget savings deal as good as it sounds? Mirror Online #savings, philip #hammond, the #budget

New NS I can also confirm today that the new NS I bond I announced at Autumn Statement will be available from April and will pay 2.2% on deposits up to 3,000, a welcome break for hard-pressed savers, Philip Hammond said in his Budget speech .

    Sounds good? Well, Maybe.

  • Full text of the 2017 Budget speech

  • So, how good is it then?

For anyone with a bit of extra cash, or with money languishing on low rates, this deal is worth looking at.

“The NS I investment bond is amongst the best cash products in the market and will appeal to the many savers who like the security of a government backed savings account, said Adrian Lowcock, investment director, Architas.

But, for all that, most are rather unimpressed.

“It’s welcome news that the new NS I bond will be launched in April but disappointing that the rate is not higher, said Anna Bowes, Director of independent savings advice site, SavingsChampion.co.uk .

The new bond will mean savers can earn up to 202 in interest over the three year term, but this is just an extra 6 a year more than they could get on the open market.

In fact, it’s the worst deal that could be offered and still meet Hammond’s earlier promise.

The Chancellor has done as little as he could in terms of the interest rate to meet his commitment to provide a market-leading rate; at 2.2% it just about earns that title, said Laith Khalaf, senior analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown.

Worse, the way things are going, even this bond will effectively lose money when price rises are taken account of.

“If inflation does increase as expected this year, savers in the new NS I bond are guaranteed to lose money, said Sean McCann, chartered financial planner at NFU Mutual.

    Larry the Cable Guy

Larry the Cable Guy on every fricking thing that ever happens

“ insert Southern metaphor here ”

    Larry the Cable Guy

Lars Cele Cabilious (born February 17, 1963), better known by his stage name and character Larry the Cable Guy. is a morbidly obese Nebraska born human abomination of the bumpkin genus in the Midwestern demographic.

His shucking and jiving for the man is reminiscent of black-face minstrels, as he dons his non-native Southern accent in an insulting and derogatory manner. His IQ has been rated by two different scientists. One rated his IQ at 24 and another at 156.

Larry’s birth name is Lard the Stable Guy, a handle given to him by his loving parents Bledgur, a Celtic bard, and Shereece, a Gypsy prostitute. His routines, known world wide, are famous and listened to by everyone in the world except California and New York due to a skewed culture.

Eventually, Larry became bored with the circus and joined the WWF. It was here he adopted the name Larry the Cable Guy. The reason for choosing this name is unknown, but many believe it is because of Larry’s tendency to spend countless hours watching incestual goat porn on cable television.

Larry won the WWF World Championship seven times, mostly as a result of destroying his opponent’s intelligence with his stand-up routine or through knocking them out with his favorite “foreign” object, a gun rack. Larry would refer to it simply as an object since someone called his original weapon of choice, a screwdriver, “foreign” and Larry rejected it. Incidentally, the gunrack is painted red, white and blue.

Along with Jeff Foxworthy. Bill Engvall. and Ron White, Larry formed the Blue Collar Beer Club. The Blue Collar Beer Club was one of the WWF’s most successful factions and the only one that doubled as a stand-up comedy group. In the end, Foxworthy ate the heads of Bill, Ron, Larry, Curly and Moe. The first three miraculously survived. Curly and Moe were not as lucky.

    edit Comedy Career

After changing his name, once again, to the more traditional Jewish Larry Cableman. Larry set out on the comedy highway. Larry had performed stand-up comedy for years, but it was not until the formation of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour that he became popular. Throughout the United States, he was known for his racism. toilet humour, and tendency to poke fun at fat and retarded people such as himself. Larry became most famous for, however, his annoyingly excessive usage of the nonsensical phrase “Git-R-Done”. Rednecks think this is funny for some reason.

    edit Blue Collar TV

The Blue Collar Comedy Tour became so popular that C-SPAN offered the group the chance to produce a conservative political commentary show. Everyone in the group, except Ron White (who Dan Corey has openly admitted he would like to have sex with), accepted the offer.

At first, Blue Collar TV was highly successful. The show won 10 Emmys for its first season. Things would not be good for long, though.

When Jeff Foxworthy developed severe mental illness in early 2006, the quality of the show slowly declined. Ratings fell so low in February that Bill Engvall committed suicide. Ron White declared bankruptcy and Jeff had to sell bootleg NASCAR videos to survive. The show was canceled shortly after.

    edit Larry Today

A simulation of one of Larry’s comedy shows. If you’re thinking it’s not funny, that’s because it isn’t.

Larry left the comedy scene when the American public discovered that he was, in fact, not funny. Larry has become very politically active and is running for Lord President of Flushing Meddows Trailor Park in his home state of Nebreska.

Larry spends much of his free time in farting contests with other genetically mutated people. most notably Billy Ray Cyrus, Cletus, Jeff Foxworthy and Elmer Dinkly.

Larry currently works for Compost in Laos Angel’s as a Cable TV repairman.

Larry is the current chairman of the Redneck Division of Pro League Baseball.

    edit Rivals

Larry the Cable Guy has an archrival named Larry the Cable Gay. whose book “Git-Im-Done” briefly topped the bestsellers list before people realized that homosexuals are in fact gay and thus not worth anyone’s time, except for the lesbians who are unquestionably hot.

Larry also has a cyberneticized clone from the far distant future who is intent on stopping his vile ambitions. Cable the Larry Guy continues fighting against the inevitable future in which Larry has destroyed all comedy in the universe.

David Cross, the stupid smarty pants Jewish (non-practicing) comedian is one of Larry’s most dreaded enemies. After Cross said in a Rolling Stone article about Larry:

“He’s good at what he does. It’s a lot of anti-gay, racist humor — which people like in America — all couched in ‘I’m telling it like it is.’ He’s in the right place at the right time for that gee-shucks, proud-to-be-a-redneck, I’m-just-a -straight-shooter-multimillionaire-in-cutoff-flannel-selling-ring -tones act. That’s where we are as a nation now. We’re in a stage of vague American values and anti-intellectual pride.”

Larry responded furiously, calling Cross a “faggy, poop-farting, darkie-loving, liberal fag.” Larry then drank 3 shots of Jack Daniels and stuck his finger in a power outlet. The feud continues to this day.

Other rivalries include one with comedian Steve Hofstetter, who titled his CD “Cure for the Cable Guy.” Hofstetter was wrong, as the cure for Larry the Cable Guy is clearly better birth control and a ban on boxed wine. Comedian Doug Stanhope also wrote a letter asking Larry to die. The Cable Guy was furious once someone read it to him.

The final set of rivals to Larry the Cable Guy would be any human being who passes up a chance to eat at KFC, and would rather not bathe in old whiskey, biscuits-and-gravy, and a rising pool of self-loathing and anti-semitism.

His most capable rival until date remains Joe the Plumber who plays the role of an anti-hero during the 2008 Presidency Race, which Larry won. Joe the Plumber has gained many fans since his debut in the race for presidency, competing against the Cable Guy in popularity.

Kentucky s Last Abortion Clinic Sues State to Stay Open

Kentucky’s last abortion provider is suing the state to stay open.

The EMW Women’s Surgical Center in Louisville claims in a federal lawsuit that Gov. Matt Bevin’s administration informed them “out of the blue” that the clinic was not in compliance with state rules and ordered them to stop performing abortions starting Monday, April 3.

“If EMW is forced to close its doors, there will be no licensed abortion facility in the Commonwealth of Kentucky,” the suit states. “Kentucky women would be left without access to a critical and constitutionally protected medical procedure.”

The EMW Women s Surgical Center in Louisville is Kentucky s last abortion provider. WAVE3

The clinic is seeking an injunction against what it calls Bevin’s “blatantly unconstitutional” move.

“This is absolutely just another attempt to ban abortion in Kentucky,” said EMW attorney Donald L. Cox, adding that the clinic “has been properly licensed for decades.” “The governor’s war plan has some serious deficiencies in them. Other than that, it’s a great plan.”

There was no immediate response from Bevin’s office to the lawsuit.

At issue is the state’s requirement, outlined in the lawsuit, that “an abortion facility maintain agreements with a local hospital and ambulance company to transfer patients in the rare event of an emergency.”

Cox said EMW has had such an agreement in place with the University of Louisville Hospital and a local ambulance company since 2014. The clinic passed its most recent inspection last year and had it license renewed through May 31, he said.

“Despite these facts, out of the blue, on March 13, 2017, the Cabinet for the first time raised technical objections to the Agreements and sent a letter to EMW threatening to shut the clinic down in 10 days,” according to the lawsuit.

EMW charged in the papers the governor was retaliating against them for filing an earlier lawsuit “challenging Kentucky’s new forced ultrasound requirement.”

It’s no secret that the governor — a married father of 10 (four of them adopted) — opposes abortion and has called himself an “unapologetically pro-life individual.”

This year, Bevin signed two bills into law curbing abortion, including one that bans them after the 20th week of pregnancy. And he used tactics similar to the one he’s using on EMW to block abortions from being performed at the company’s other clinic in Lexington and at the Louisville clinic of Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky.

The Bevin administration is “taking the position that even though EMW signed an agreement with the hospital they say the actual owner of the hospital has to sign it,” said Cox.

Currently, the public hospital is managed by KentuckyOne Health, an affiliate of the Denver-based Catholic Health Initiatives.

“What they appear to be saying is we have to go to the Catholics to get permission to do abortions,” Cox said. “Not a very likely scenario.”
