Manager at Via Italia in Glasgow resigns following staff intimidation claims

Campaign group scores another victory by exposing manager who bullied staff members

THE MANAGER of an Italian restaurant in Glasgow has resigned following claims he was bullying female staff members.

Giuliano Delia resigned from Via Italia after the company received complaints about its former manager.

Worker’s rights group Better than Zero (BtZ) posted a detailed account from someone who attended a trial period with Via Italia.

They claimed to witness Delia intimidating staff members who alleged they were scared of him.

“Bullying, intimidation and belittling is not acceptable in any situation.” Better Than Zero

The female making the allegation through BtZ wrote: “Bullying, intimidation and belittling is not acceptable in any situation.

“When you have young girls at 18/19 years old too scared to say anything because they’re terrified for their jobs so they put up with it, that’s absolutely heartbreaking and something needs to be done about it.”

Following BtZ’s post, the restaurant posted a statement which said: “After an internal investigation following today’s comments on social media, the company of Via Italia would like to state that the manager in question no longer works for Via Italia and has resigned with immediate effect.”

The post received praise from customers who were shocked at his actions.

CommonSpace spoke to Bryan Simpson from BtZ, who told us that although he was happy Delia had been removed from his position, BtZ hopes to sit down with Via Italia to ensure there are no future cases of staff intimidation.

Simpson said: “The victory at Via Italia shows what workers coming together can do to change a bullying culture.

“However, we are still looking to meet with the owners of Via Italia to put together a comprehensive anti-harassment policy to ensure that it never happens again.”

BtZ said it has contacted the owners of Via Italia to discuss it proposals, but has yet to receive a reply.

Speaking about the effect BtZ now has, Simpson said it was essential for people to know their rights in cases where bullying and unfair practices were common place.

Following the post on social media about Via Italia, BtZ has been in contact with eight employees of the restaurant to give them advice.

“It wasn’t all down to BtZ, it (Delia’s removal) was also thanks to everyone who shared the post and put it out. We have been in to speak to the workers, and are currently getting them into a union.

“Although we are very relieved he has been removed, we want to ensure long-term protection.”

Via Italia has two restaurants in Glasgow, one on Union Street close to Central Station and another on Sauchiehall Street.

We spoke to Via Italia, but the restaurant declined to comment.

Jason Orange blamed Take That for ruining his life, claims former manager

H e rejoined the Nineties boy band that made his name for their successful 2006 reunion, only to leave again in 2014, claiming that he no longer wanted to continue his music career. But Jason Orange, seen by many (perhaps unfairly) as one of the less-than-essential members of Take That, was allegedly never that keen on being in the group at all.

“When I put Jason in the band he loved it, but he turned around years later and said he was upset with me,” his former manager Nigel Martin-Smith, who put together the original Take That line-up, told the Daily Star.

“He said he couldn’t sing, he wasn’t a musician and I had no right to put him in the band. He wanted to know why I did it to him. He said he had loads of issues as a result of it and seemed to blame me for ruining his life. I couldn’t believe it.”

M artin Smith also suggested that he considers Orange ungrateful, adding: “I said ‘Jay, you’ve travelled the world first class, stayed in five-star hotels, had women throwing themselves at you, had the most amazing life, with how many millions in the bank.’ It must have been so horrible for him. That’s how bizarre it is.”

W hen he quit the band in 2014, leaving members Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald to continue as a trio, Orange insisted that his relations with the remaining Take That members were still amicable.

“There have been no fallings out, only a decision on my part that I no longer wish to do this, he said at the time. I know how much Mark, Gary and Howard enjoy writing and making music, and they know that they have my full support and encouragement to continue on with what is to be another chapter for the band.”

O range previously told the Sunday Times, in a 2011 interview, that he felt robbed by his first stint with the group in the Nineties.

I think every person’s job either feeds them or takes from them, he said. Take That, for me, the first time, took from me. It gave me money, it gave me a standard of living, but it robbed me of my voice.

To come back as an older adult, on my guard a bit and wiser, I know it sounds melodramatic, but it’s like there’s this thing up there, and we can all give to it and get back from it, and it shines into us, and we can all grow from it

Or it will just rob us again, and we’ll leave with all this s— that we didn’t say or didn’t do.

P rior to joining Take That, Orange worked as a decorator by day and a dancer by night , performing in clubs and on television as part of a Manchester breakdancing group, alongside fellow future band member Howard Donald.

It’s no secret that his impressive dancing ability – coupled with his famous good looks and muscled physique – played a bigger part in securing his spot in the group than his self-confessedly modest singing skills.

My biggest insecurity has always been, what do I contribute to the band? I don’t really write music or understand it like they [the other bandmembers] do, he said in 2005.

The rapper is being called out for lyrics like “You ever wonder why Jewish people own all the property in America?” but Oseary says the song “is based on exaggerated stereotypes to make a point.”

Music manager Guy Oseary, who works with both Madonna and U2, is defending Jay-Z against claims that some of the lyrics on his new album, 4:44, are anti-Semitic.

Oseary, who is Jewish, took to Instagram to comment on lyrics included in Jay-Z s song The Story of O.J.

On the song, Jay-Z raps: You wanna know what s more important than throwin away money at a strip club? Credit. You ever wonder why Jewish people own all the property in America? This how they did it/Financial freedom my only hope/F livin rich and dyin broke.

If you read the lyrics out of context I can understand why people are jumping to that conclusion, Oseary wrote on Instagram. But if you listen to the song in its entirety you will hear that the whole of the song is based on exaggerated stereotypes to make a point. There are African American stereotypes throughout the song.

He continued: Jewish people do NOT own all the property in America. Jay knows this. But he s attempting to use the Jewish people in an exaggerated way to showcase a community of people that are thought to have made wise business decisions.. As an example of what is possible and achievable.. Yes, the rich Jew the business Jew the Jew that owns the world is a stereotype which has been repeatedly used with the wrong sentiment.. meant only to harm the Jewish people. Perpetuating the absurdity that Jews are taking over the world.

Oseary went on to quote a stat saying that only 14 million people of the world s 7.5 billion people are Jews equating to 0.2 percent of the global population.

In my opinion, Jay is giving the Jewish community a compliment, Oseary added. Financial freedom. He mentions as being his ONLY hope. If you had to pick a community as an example of making wise financial decisions achieving financial freedom who would you choose? I m not offended by these lyrics. I hear them the way he intended them to be heard. Giving credit to a community that supposedly understands what it means to have credit. I m good with that.

For his part, Jay-Z has said the song is about how we as a culture, having a plan, how we re gonna push this forward. We all make money, and then we all lose money, as artists especially. But how, when you have some type of success, to transform that into something bigger.

Meanwhile, Buzzfeed noted that Jay-Z, along with Russell Simmons, was part of a campaign in 2006 in which he spoke out against racism and anti-Semitism.

Barcelona are close to agreeing deals for both Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele, according to the Catalan club’s general manager, Josep Segura.

Coutinho has been heavily linked with a move to the Camp Nou after handing in a transfer request at Anfield, with reports in the Catalan press suggesting a deal is now just days away, although Liverpool insist the Brazil international is not for sale and have already rejected a 90.4m offer from Barcelona.

Rap trio Migos was removed from a Delta flight on Friday, just hours before a concert, and their manager is reportedly accusing the airline of racial profiling.

Migos were on a flight from Atlanta to Des Moines, Iowa, but the plane returned to the gate before it departed to drop off the trio. Their manager told TMZ, which first reported the news, that the three members of the group were in first class, and Takeoff s bag was on the ground and not in the overhead storage as required.

Delta said in a statement to Variety that the group was removed for a failure to follow crew member instructions and properly stow away their items in the overhead bins. Their manager, however, told TMZ that Takeoff failed to follow instructions and place his bag in the bin because he was asleep.

Delta flight 1532 from Atlanta to Des Moines returned to the gate, prior to departure, to deplane several customers seated in the First Class cabin who repeatedly refused to follow crew member instructions to buckle their seatbelts and stow carry-on items in the overhead bins, Delta said in its statement.

Delta added that Migos was rebooked for an alternate flight to Des Moines, which is scheduled to arrive shortly after 9 p.m.

A video of the incident obtained by TMZ shows a flight attendant and the rappers discussing the situation, with threats of a lawsuit leveled at Delta. Takeoff was reportedly the only one kicked off the flight, but Quavo and Offset, as well as their manager, also left in solidarity.

A rep for Migos confirmed the events of the TMZ report to Variety. The outlet also reports that Migos manager is accusing Delta of racial profiling in kicking the group off the plane.

Jason Orange blamed Take That for ruining his life, claims former manager

H e rejoined the Nineties boy band that made his name for their successful 2006 reunion, only to leave again in 2014, claiming that he no longer wanted to continue his music career. But Jason Orange, seen by many (perhaps unfairly) as one of the less-than-essential members of Take That, was allegedly never that keen on being in the group at all.

“When I put Jason in the band he loved it, but he turned around years later and said he was upset with me,” his former manager Nigel Martin-Smith, who put together the original Take That line-up, told the Daily Star.

“He said he couldn’t sing, he wasn’t a musician and I had no right to put him in the band. He wanted to know why I did it to him. He said he had loads of issues as a result of it and seemed to blame me for ruining his life. I couldn’t believe it.”

M artin Smith also suggested that he considers Orange ungrateful, adding: “I said ‘Jay, you’ve travelled the world first class, stayed in five-star hotels, had women throwing themselves at you, had the most amazing life, with how many millions in the bank.’ It must have been so horrible for him. That’s how bizarre it is.”

W hen he quit the band in 2014, leaving members Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald to continue as a trio, Orange insisted that his relations with the remaining Take That members were still amicable.

“There have been no fallings out, only a decision on my part that I no longer wish to do this, he said at the time. I know how much Mark, Gary and Howard enjoy writing and making music, and they know that they have my full support and encouragement to continue on with what is to be another chapter for the band.”

O range previously told the Sunday Times, in a 2011 interview, that he felt robbed by his first stint with the group in the Nineties.

I think every person’s job either feeds them or takes from them, he said. Take That, for me, the first time, took from me. It gave me money, it gave me a standard of living, but it robbed me of my voice.

To come back as an older adult, on my guard a bit and wiser, I know it sounds melodramatic, but it’s like there’s this thing up there, and we can all give to it and get back from it, and it shines into us, and we can all grow from it

Or it will just rob us again, and we’ll leave with all this s— that we didn’t say or didn’t do.

P rior to joining Take That, Orange worked as a decorator by day and a dancer by night , performing in clubs and on television as part of a Manchester breakdancing group, alongside fellow future band member Howard Donald.

It’s no secret that his impressive dancing ability – coupled with his famous good looks and muscled physique – played a bigger part in securing his spot in the group than his self-confessedly modest singing skills.

My biggest insecurity has always been, what do I contribute to the band? I don’t really write music or understand it like they [the other bandmembers] do, he said in 2005.

The History of KCBS, the World’s First Broadcasting Station

The Bay Area’s only all news radio station, KCBS started out as the hobby of scientist and inventor Charles Herrold. Giving birth to the world’s first radio station, Herrold and his engineering students began broadcasting regularly-scheduled programming in 1909 on a 14-watt transmitter in San Jose. Originally, the station simply identified itself as “This is San Jose Calling.” When radio licenses were issued in 1921, “Doc” Herrold was assigned the call letters of KQW. The station kept those call letters until CBS purchased it in 1949, broadcasting as KCBS at 740 AM on the dial.

News radio was born in 1968, when KCBS became the first all news station in Northern California. It was then and continues to be one of the top-rated radio stations in the Bay Area, serving more than a million Bay Area listeners each week.

In October 2008, KCBS began simulcasting its all news programming on the FM dial at 106.9, reaching more listeners by combining the power of AM with the clarity of FM. KCBS was also one of the first Bay Area stations to broadcast in HD digital sound

KCBS is among the most honored radio stations in the United States, winning every major national award for excellence in broadcast journalism. These awards include the Peabody Award, the duPont-Columbia Award, five Edward R. Il Master of Management in Food Beverage (MFB) è un programma internazionale in inglese, per la formazione di figure manageriali nel Food Beverage e nei settori collegati quali il manufatturiero, l’hotellerie e il retailing.

Attraverso questo Master innovativo e altamente specializzato i partecipanti acquisiscono una conoscenza approfondita del settore e sviluppano le competenze teoriche e pratiche necessarie per ricoprire un ruolo gestionale all’interno di aziende che operano in questo ambito.
