You will need to create an account to access the portal.

Welcome to a new, easier way to file

A new unemployment insurance system is coming, planned with YOU in mind.

ReEmployME (ME is pronounced Maine ) will give you faster access to your unemployment benefits information and an easier way to file.

  • An active Department of Labor Portal account.
  • A Complete and Active registration on your State’s joblink system that is separate from your portal account.
  • Your Social Security Number.
  • If you would like to apply for additional benefits for any dependents, you will also need your spouse’s Social Security Number.

  • If you are not a U.S. Citizen, your Alien Registration Number and Expiration Date.
  • Employment Information (for initial claims and weekly claims filings).

  • Answers to questions about the Maine JobLink registration and use requirements when filing for unemployment.
  • Watch short videos that explain how to file for unemployment benefits, outline your rights and responsibilities, describe common mistakes and work search requirements and answer other common questions.
  • If you have a question about your unemployment claim that is not answered in the links above or on the videos about Maine’s unemployment system, contact the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Unemployment Compensation at 1-800-593-7660. TTY users dial Maine Relay 711.

Tips for Using the Unemployment Web Portal

  1. You should only create one portal account. If you have already gone through the steps to open an account, be sure you have checked your email to activate your account by following the directions before starting to create an account again.
  2. The system will give you three tries to type in your correct email and password. After the third unsuccessful attempt, the system will lock you out for 24 hours. After two tries, click the link for either Forgot your email? or Forgot your password? and follow the directions. This will prevent your account from locking you out.
  3. Do not use a false email address. You MUST have access to a valid email address in order to activate your account by going to the email address that you used to create the portal account and then following directions to validate the account. The Department of Labor will not provide your email address to any third party.
  4. Each person filing for a portal account must have his or her own email address.
  5. A new portal account needs to be set up even if you have used the previous unemployment web claims system.
  6. Your Maine JobLink account is different than your unemployment web portal account, the JobLink login will not work on the web portal. Note, however, that your unemployment client ID will be the same in Maine JobLink.
  7. If you call for customer assistance, be sure to let the person who answers the phone know which account you are calling about to make sure you are speaking to the correct staff person who can help you. We may refer you to other staff.
  8. You may file an initial claim for unemployment benefits if you do not have a Maine JobLink account. If you do so, the information from your initial claim will be used to initiate an account on Maine JobLink. However, before filing a weekly claim for benefits, you must activate and complete your Maine JobLink account. If you reside outside of Maine, you must be registered with the state JobLink of the state where you reside.
  9. If you have used an account on the Department of Labor’s previous job board system, the Maine Job Bank, that account will have transferred to Maine JobLink. Information about accessing your account is here. You will need to log in, activate it and complete any missing information before filing a weekly claim. Be sure to include your Social Security Number before filing any unemployment claim (initial or re-opening a benefit year) so that the unemployment system can match your existing account and you will avoid the system creating a second account for you.

Online Colleges in Maine

Over the years, Maine has implemented several policies to ensure that digital learning is available to students of all ages. In fact, in early 2012, Gov. Paul LePage signed an executive order granting the expansion of online learning options in all classrooms by 2013. While the latest executive order wasn t directed to higher education institutions specifically, systems have still launched efforts to create and improve online schools in Maine and higher education as a whole as well.

Higher Learning Initiatives

LOOC: Little Open Online Course Initiative

Starting in 2012, the University of Maine at Presque Isle started experimenting with open courseware on a smaller scale. Loosely called LOOC, U of Maine at PI lets a set number of non-paying students tune in to select online classes. Tuition-paying and non-tuition-paying students are treated the same and must do the same work; however, the latter do not earn credit. The institution implemented the initiative in hopes of attracting more students to officially enroll in its traditional and online classes.

The Maine OnLine Learning Initiative

Both the U.S. Department of Labor and the Maine Department of Labor joined forces with the Sloan Foundation, Rutgers University, and Pennsylvania State University in 2009 to launch The Maine OnLine Learning Initiative. a program designed to award tuition support to incumbent workers pursuing online licenses, certificates, and degrees to improve their careers. Only those pursuing advancement in high priority industries, such as health care, information technology, and financial services from St. Joseph s College are eligible for the aid.

Maine Compact for Higher Education

In 2003, the Maine Community Foundation partnered with the Maine Development Foundation to launch the Maine Compact for Higher Education. an initiative aimed at increasing the number of degree holders in the state by 2020. Another goal the initiative plans to achieve is getting support from employers so that workers can enroll in more online schools in Maine and can take course work on job sites. This means more accessibility to career advancement.

How to Lead: Maine Insurance

Living up to the state motto, “I lead,” takes a little creativity. Your fellow Pine Tree State residents have already cornered the markets on blueberries and toothpicks. Stephen King’s sales records would scare anyone away. And lobsters? Forget about it. Maybe the right tactic is to take charge of what you know and love, and to protect it against any danger. Maine insurance is the perfect place to start.

Car Insurance Is the Law

If you want to take the family to Acadia National Park safely, familiarize yourself with state requirements. According to state law, every driver must purchase a policy with 50/100/25 minimums: bodily injury liability limits of $50,000 per injured person, up to a total of $100,000 per accident, and property damage liability coverage of $25,000. Maine is a tort state, which means that someone will be found at fault in an accident, and then be responsible for the damages. To protect against uninsured and underinsured drivers, the state also requires coverage for these motorists of $50,000 and $100,000, respectively. You’re also required to purchase a medical payment policy of at least $1,000. If you overlook any of these coverages, or allow them to lapse, you’ll likely receive a fine, possibly be charged with uninsured operation, and face higher Maine auto insurance quotes when you try to rectify the problem. You might also face suspension of your registration and license.

Consolidating Your Costs

Just as shipping blueberries in bulk saves money, consolidating policies can save you hundreds of dollars. A 40-year-old single man in Portland who drives a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 20 miles a day, will pay $421 for the state minimum coverage. If the same man gets married, and adds his wife’s 2006 Honda Pilot to his policy, they’ll pay $530 per year-a significant savings per driver. And remember, the less time you’re on the road, the less your car insurance company will worry. If you decide to carpool, or take public transportation, you’ll not only save money on gas, but you’ll most likely find lower Maine insurance quotes. You can also save hundreds of dollars by combining your auto insurance, life insurance. homeowners insurance, and business insurance policies-and adding a health or life policy.

How to Afford Home Insurance

Even if you live in a picture-perfect coastline cottage, never accept the first Maine home insurance quotes you find. You can easily lower your premium by making your home safer from fire damage and theft. The average premium for home insurance in Maine is about $566 per year, but if you install deadbolt locks and a burglar alarm, you can lower that cost to $510. To save another 15%, equip your home with fire extinguishers and smoke alarms. Once insurers believe you’ve decreased the chance of damages, they’ll respond with lower Maine insurance quotes.

Responsibility Pays Off

To receive lower Maine insurance quotes, convince insurers that you’re responsible. In Augusta, a 25-year-old waitress who drives a 2007 Toyota Prius to work, with an average daily commute of 16 miles, will pay around $615 a year for the state-required minimum. But a mistake as minor as a turning violation six months before might drive her annual premium over $900. If she let her insurance lapse the previous month, her new premium will likely jump at least $200. In the end, the most responsible choice you can make is to shop around. Whether you wade through the many offers or take advantage of a free service like NetQuote.com, you owe it to yourself to insure the life you love at a price you can afford.

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue – Living as a Pack!
photo – Jenny Cope

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue (GaDaH) is run from Jenny’s (the founders) home. Our ultimate aim is in helping to save the lives of homeless, and abandoned German Shepherd Dogs throughout Texas. Animals mainly come from HIGH KILL Animal Shelters, (where they have THREE days to be saved), or strays found aimlessly wandering the streets, starving, scared and homeless.

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue strongly supports spay and neutering programs, and works with other organizations to promote, and provide education on spay/neuter programs, Heart worm preventative, general animal care, and other necessary programs.

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue animals are all spayed/neutered; micro chipped; given rabies vaccination; any other required vaccinations; Heart worm tested; and receive all required medical treatment to ensure they are healthy, both physically and mentally, before they are placed in carefully screened homes.

Rescuers, rescue supporters, and volunteers do not walk on water. We don’t wear capes and tights or leap tall buildings. We aren’t better than anyone else, but we do pursue a cause that we believe makes us better than before we started. We make mistakes; we feel we can’t do enough at home; we rant out in frustration; we lose our tempers and get snappy; we have to reject people sometimes for the good of a dog. We are not always likeable. What we do is draining, emotionally, financially and physically. Please bear with us and forgive us our flaws, because we are doing work that’s bigger than we are.

Our FIRST OFFICIAL GaDaH T-shirt fundraiser raised an amazing and totally unexpected $2,134.46! This was wonderful people buying t-shirts and adding additional donations. Our FIRST T-shirt was WHITE and people were very happy with the quality. (T-shirt courtesy of Jillian Dabovich).

66 Dogs were adopted to wonderful families
5 dogs successful completed the SFLS Service Dog Training Program
15 Dogs / Puppies sadly passed to the Rainbow Bridge
66 Dogs are still available for Adoption
10 of the dogs still available were saved in 2012

142 dogs were saved from Kill Shelters, or a few saved as strays.
142 dogs that wouldn’t have had a chance had GaDaH not stepped up to save their lives.
15 lost the fight, but we made sure they had every chance possible, we did not give up on them.

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue could NOT have done this without your help.

It’s been a heck of a roller-coaster ride, but when we look at those numbers, it makes it all worth it.

Saying THANK YOU SO MUCH does not come close to expressing our appreciation.

Stay on board if you want to enjoy the journey with us into 2014

Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue
Partners with San Antonio Food Bank

A project I have been wanting to get set up for almost a year has finally been completed. I completed the Food Bank Course in August 2013 and we have been working on getting a shed for the storage of the food. As with everything in rescue something always happens to delay other things, but we finally got our shed. There have been several people who have played an integral part of this.

  • The wonderful family who was able to donate the shed since they was moving.
  • Jenny from feral cat rescue for putting me in contact with them.
  • Dean and Henry Mason, who went and took the shed down one evening and delivered it to Devine.
  • Allison who brought the materials for the shed base.
  • Donald, Rose, Red and Mr. Thomas who came out for two days to build the base and to put the shed together.

On Thursday, 27th June 2013, Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue was approved to run a “Pet Food Bank”. We are officially now a PARTNER AGENCY with the SAN ANTONIO FOOD BANK, working with the DAISY CARES PROGRAM.

We are hoping that we will get some volunteers to be part of the Pet Food Bank, maybe some children who want to get involved, hold Food Drives and help on Pet Food Bank Days.

I am very excited about this new project as now we are not only saving lives of GSDs in the kill shelters, but we are going to be able to help the community who are in need of some help with their pets.

It would be great to have two locations, one in Devine and one in San Antonio, but we shall see how things go and how many dedicated volunteers we get.

THANK YOU So much to those involved in Project Shed

FIRST OFFICIAL Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog t-shirt!

We BROKE our goal from our FIRST t-shirt Fundraising Campaign. We set out to sell 100 t-shirts in a month, we sold 113 shirts, and raised $680.35 in additional donations, resulting in the grand total raised amount of $2,134.46!

I am pleased to say that supporters in the first campaign were extremely happy with the quality of the t-shirts, the color was great, much higher than they had expected.

We are planning on having another t-shirt campaign towards the end of summer, we have a great design idea.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR MUCH NEEDED CONTINUED SUPPORT.

We will be ordering a stock of t-shirts so people can purchase them direct from GaDaH.
